nini groaned as she turned over in her bed. she peeked open one eye and saw her alarm clock.
"8:49... WAIT WHAT?!"
nini there her covers back and jumped out of bed. she had overslept by over 2 hours! it was friday morning, so her moms left for work early. because of their schedules, they leave early on fridays and won't be back till sunday evening. it sometimes makes it hard to spend time together as a family, but nini knows it's in the better interest of her family. the overtime really counts up.
nini rushed into the bathroom and quickly washed her face, brushed her teeth, and ran a comb through her hair a quickly pulled it up into a ponytail. she ran into her closet and grabbed she ripped jeans and a sweatshirt that had come off its hanger and was laying on the ground.
nini picked it up and threw it on; it was the sweatshirt she had wore when she met ricky down at the dream bridge. that was a couple days ago. after their big long talk that night, all nini had told him is that she still hasn't made a decision on what to do.
she slipped on her doc martens and grabbed her phone, backpack, and keys.

by the time she got in her car, it was 9:05. nini looked both ways when's he pulled out of her driveway and saw a dark blue SUV parked near her house that she hadn't seen before. there was a man sitting inside of it that she didn't recognize. nini brushes it off as a new neighbor or maybe a maintenance man.
when nini got to the school, she hurried out of her car and grabbed her book bag. as she was walking up to the building, she dropped her textbook trying to cram it into her bag.
"ugh." as she was bending down to pick it up, another hand made it there first.
"here you go. you gotta be more careful." EJ Caswell said, handing nini her book back with a wink.
"oh yeah." nini said with a small laugh. she manage to get the book in her bag this time and continued walking up to the building.
"so why are you so late today? i thought you were, like, a picture perfect student." EJ said. now he was walking beside her and at the same pace.
"i accidentally overslept today. which i don't usually do, but everything has been a little hectic." nini said, with a small smile. a little hectic was an understatement.
"well, hopefully you can decompress tonight. at my party? you're still coming, right?" EJ said. he stopped walking and turned his body towards ninis.
"oh shoot! i'm so sorry EJ, i totally forgot. it just, my moms got this new schedule so they are out of town-" nini started to explain, but EJ cut her off.
"hey, it okay! look, since they are gone, it's a perfect opportunity for you to have some fun!" he said with a huge smile. and before nini could say anything else, he was already walking off.
"is it actually possible that EJ Caswell likes me?" nini thought time herself. if any other time in her entire life she thought this, she would be so happy! EJ is the star boy that every girl likes. but for some reason, it just didn't sit right. nini shook the thought and hurried into the front office to sign in.
she walked through the doors of her English class and hurried to the front of the classroom where her seat is. like you could imagine, the whole class turned and looked at her making her face blush in embarrassment, including ricky but he gave her a soft smile that gave her some reassurance.
once she sat down, she got situated quickly and the class went back into its groove. for the last ten minutes, their teacher gave them free roam in the classroom to study with other students for the upcoming test. nini turned around to see if ricky was already with other students, but instead she saw him already on his way up to her desk. she smiled at him as he took a seat in the desk next to hers.
"well look who's late." he said with a playful smile.
"my whole morning has been off. i overslept, i left the bathroom light on 3 times this morning on accident, and i got all hung up on this car parked outside of my house this morning." nini said packing her things back into her backpack.
"a car?" ricky said, confused but intrigued.
"yeah it was this dark blue SUV. i'm guessing maintenance or something but i just couldn't get over it." nini said. there was almost a chill down her back. the bell rang and that was dismissing ricky and nini for the day since it was their shortest day on friday.
"well, if it was maintenance, they are probably still working on something at your house, so why don't you just come over?" ricky suggested as they got up and started walking out the door
"yeah that would be great. also we need to get ready. remember when i told EJ that we would go to the bonfire at his lake house? please don't bail, i forgot but he confronted me this morning so i can't get out of it." nini said as they walked out to their cars.
"EJ Caswell loves filling up your calendar doesn't he? no, i'm not going to bail on you. but only for you Miss Nini Salazar-Roberts!" ricky said with his hands above his head as he walked to the other side of the parking lot to his car.
nini hopped in hers and started her engine and went off to rickys house. she had a giddy smile across her face when she got into her car and rolled her eyes thinking about the silly boy that was her best friend. she was thankful for him.
