As fit as my fiancé was, I didn't expect to ever feel endangered in moments like this.
But seeing him without a gun while we were cornered made me feel otherwise.
After a couple moments, the door handle begins shaking frantically from the person on the other side. Seonghwa drags me with him as we rush toward the door, practically sprinting as it swings open. I watch as internally panic at the sight of a mean, bearded man bout twice the size of Seonghwa standing with a gun held to our faces. I almost wanted to stop right then and there and beg for mercy.
With one leg, Seonghwa tactfully kicks the intruder in his gut and valiantly disarms him with a twist to the arm. The giant falls to the ground with a vibrating thud that shook even the marble beneath us. Seonghwa reaches for his gun with one hand and grabs my hand with the other.
"Stupid bitch," I kick the assailant in his face and accidentally stub my big toe in his teeth. I let out a loud yelp at the stinging pain and was then forced to walk with a limping foot all the way through the bedroom.
Seonghwa with his quick eye manages to shoot down every intruder in sight. It was like a video game scene— perfect kill, straight to the head. I was starting to wonder if it was actually true that he was taught to hold a gun before he ever held a pencil. All this time I thought the twins were joking but I can clearly see otherwise.
We maneuver our way through the hallway and out past the living room.
"Stay here," he leaves me at the fireplace connected to the wall of the front door.
"Okay..." I slowly creep behind the couch.
Seonghwa then swings the door open and revealed three men who appeared to have been keeping watch. They turn around only to have been met with his bullets, the third man managed to dodge. He throws a right hook toward Seonghwa, in which my fiancé replies with a successful block. The two start brawling, throwing one another against the wall and swinging their fists back and forth. I scramble for one of the guns nearby and rise to my feet, struggling to steady my trembling hands.
They were moving so fast that I knew I couldn't get a clean shot.
Fuck, Grace, get a grip.
This was so real, this was happening right now. This was life from now on— I had to take control.
"Run," Seonghwa tells me. The man had him pinned against the ground yet he had the nerve to tell me to leave him behind.
Seonghwa hardly managed to keep the huge fuck's monstrous hands from mangling his neck. His face was already starting to turn a deep shade of pink, a look on him I've only ever seen after his intense workouts. But no workout seemed more intense than getting choked out by a freak of nature of a man.
I'd feel guilty for ditching him like this— this would be such a cruel way to go.
"Ah fuck it," I throw the gun away and grab the flower vase, chucking it against the man's back. He shouts in agony but shows no signs of slowing down— I knew I was fucked when his attention was now averted to me. Like an animal with its sight set on a prey, he lunges in my direction.
Was I starting to regret my decision?
Probably.
I scrabble off for the gun once again and just as he was about to get a grip on me, I pulled the trigger right at his chest. The loud bang set off a ringing in my ears and I panicked at the sound, instinctively dropping the gun and falling to my knees.
I just shot someone, I've killed another person.
Seonghwa rushes to my side, his eyes frantically roaming me for any signs of harm. "Are you good?" He helps me to my feet, his bloody hands brushing against my white robe.
