Part 23: Atlas' Shadow

YN's POV
"Manta 5-1. Welcome home. Please continue your approach to Atlas docking bay Omega-12. A security team will meet you there" the woman over the radio said

"I don't understand. What's happening here?" Ruby said with one hand on Qrow's chair as she leaned forward

"I don't know" Qrow said looking around confused

"Well, we are here. I guess we land in Atlas and get some answers?" Jaune offered

"I'm... not so sure. I've never seen our forces deployed so aggressively before. If we land in a stolen ship there's no way the security team will let us anywhere near Ironwood. They might even take me back to my father" Weiss said hesitantly

"They'll definitely take you back to your dad" I sighed

"Let's try and keep that from happening" Maple said as she walked forward and I placed my hand on her shoulder

"Sooooo..." Blake started

"Wait... Winter! Put some distance between us and the fleet" Weiss smiled as she walked away pulling out her scroll

"You don't have to tell me twice" Maria said as she drifted the airship farther away from the fleet bringing us down closer to Mantle, the city under Atlas

Compared to everything we had seen and heard of Atlas, Mantle looked like a completely different city. Poverty-stricken and lowly lit by dull lamps it's not something one would want to show off. Which is probably why we hadn't heard much of it until we got here. Attached to the faces of the larger buildings were large monitors of General Ironwood telling the citizens to "stay calm" and that "The kingdom of Atlas will continue to stand strong."

"Doesn't look very strong from here" Maple mumbled beside me

"Not particularly. But I think all the power is up there and Mantle gets protected by proxy" I said gesturing up to Atlas floating above our heads

"Manta 5-1, we've noticed a detour in your route. You are to make your way to docking bay Omega 12 immediately, do you copy? Over" The woman over the radio said

"We're kind of running out of time here, kids" Maria said

"We need to ditch the ship" Yang suggested

"Agreed. Get lost in Mantle and but ourselves some time" Qrow added

"I'm telling you, my sister can take us to Ironwood" Weiss said

Maple peered through the window on the doors and glanced back at Weiss "I... I don't think your sister is going to be much help Weiss" She said

Weiss walked up beside her and looked through the same window as the rest of us looked out the front window at what my sister had noticed "A reminder. Failure to cooperate with Atlas military personnel is a punishable offence. if your sector is under lockdown we ask that you remain..." The monitor of Winter continued as we looked at Weiss

"Winter?" She said confused

"No offence, Weiss. I'm not sure that's a good idea anymore" Qrow said

"There's obviously something very wrong here. If we can just talk with her, then we-" Qrow interrupted Weiss

"Look, I'm not even sure we should be talking to Ironwood until we know exactly what's going on with Mantle" Qrow said

"But-" Weiss started before being cut off again

"Everyone, calm down" Maria sighed "I know someone who can help with both"

"Manta 5-1, you are too-" Maria turned the radio off
