I trail behind Miles and Flora.
"So.. is she your mom or something?" Miles asks me.
"Sister, actually," I reply with a quick smile.
    "Ah, I see," He replies.
    "She seems nice," Flora mentions.
    We all appeared outside.
"Go on, I'll be here," Miles tells Flora as she runs along to play hopscotch.
He sits down on what seems like a barrel.
"So tell me about yourself," He said looking in my direction.
"Well.. my sister used to be a teacher but she's now a nanny-" I began to tell him until I got cut off.
"Hey hey hey. I said about you!" Miles says showing his teeth as he smiled.
"Right," I chuckled. "Well, I grew up most of my life with just my sister since our mother is mentally ill. And our father left us. I'm also homeschooled and I paint!"
"Wow, okay. My turn. I grew up with both parents in my life until an accident happened right in front of the gates. That left Flora and I with just nannies and Mrs. Grose. And Quint was there. Until he wasn't," He said with absolutely no emotion.
I looked at him and hesitantly placed my hand over his. He looked at our hands and chuckled.
"It's fine. I don't like to be pitied," Miles made clear and moved his hand.
    "Sorry.." I replied.
That really made things awkward. Until Flora came to save this awkward moment.
"Hey, guys! I bet you can't jump rope more than me!" Flora had shouted.
Miles and I glared at each other and all three of us had a competition. Now I'm competitive but Miles is on a whole nother level. He won, leaving Flora and I in the dust.
"We should head back inside," Miles suggested.
"Yeah, I need water," I agreed.

Flora, Kate and I were in a room as I was reading and Kate was teaching Flora. Miles was in the hallway throwing a ball against a wall repeatedly.
"Now what's that lava that sits in the volcano called?" Flora asks.
    "Um.. Magma." Kate answers.
"Mm. Yeah, ouch." Flora replies.
"It is ouch. Super hot," I say looking up from the book I was reading.
"Flora?" Kate said.
"Yeah?" Flora answered quickly.
"Does Miles get in trouble a lot?" Kate questions, staring at Miles in the hallway.
"Miles is the best," Flora claimed.
Flora began to rock on her rocking horse as Kate went in the hallway to Miles.
"Stop it!" Kate shouts at him. He glared back at her. "Thank you,"
"Flora? Get back to work," Kate strictly says.
Miles threw the ball one last time and left the hallway, leaving everyone else to their activities.

I was exploring the mansion until I saw, what seemed to be a shadow figure pass by.
"What the hell?" I mumbled under my breath.
I walked in the direction that I saw the shadow figure go and heard music coming from the room. I then opened the door already assuming that it was just another empty room. It was Miles' room actually.
"Oh sorry," I said as soon as he looked towards me.
"Don't you know how to knock?" He asked.
"I thought I saw someone come in here is all... like a shadow? I just assumed the room was empty," I said looking around his room.
"There's no one in here," Miles said as he picked up a spider. "It's just you and me,"
I watched as he dropped the spider in a tank that got eaten by a bigger one.

-

By the time I knew it, it was already dark out. Walking around the mansion really killed some time. I looked out of my room window and saw someone underwater.
    "Oh my god!" I shrieked.
I ran down the stairs to make my way to the pool. It was pretty cold outside. The type of cold you feel when you get out of the shower, and all of the wind is hitting your body. I went on my knees and reached my hand out to grab who was in the water. I assumed it was Flora. I couldn't reach far enough and ended up falling. The thing is, I didn't know how to swim.
"HELP!" I called out hoping for someone to come.
My vision soon went blurry as my throat and body filled up with water.

miles' pov

"Oh shit!" I shouted.
I jumped in the water and grabbed y/n's body out of it. All I meant was this to be a measly prank. For Kate. Not her. Never her. I began to push her chest hoping she'd open her eyes.
"What's going on here?" Kate asked looking at me. "Oh my god!"
Flora came running from where we were hiding and check y/n's pulse.
"Miles, quick give her CPR!" Flora yelled.
"What?" I said.
"She's NOT BREATHING!" Flora shouted.
I pinched y/n's nose and pushed my lips against hers waiting for her feel the air through her lungs. I stopped to take a breath and she opened her eyes.
"Y/n!" All of us yelled.
She began to cough out a bit of water. Kate came to hug her and so did Flora.
"Y/n I am so so sorry," I said relieved that she's still alive.
"What.. why?" She asked.
I looked around at everyone.
"I'll tell you later?" I said.
"Yeah, sure," She responded.

y/n's pov

I took a bath after the incident and heard a knock at the door a few minutes after.
"Come in," I said.
Miles came into the room closing the door behind him as I laid on my bed reading a book.
"I'm really, really sorry," Miles began to say sitting on the edge of my bed.
"About what exactly?" I asked trying to find out what I'd miss.
"Okay well, that wasn't Flora in the water. It was just a mannequin," Miles spoke briefly.
"Wait what? Why? How?" I asked confused.
"It was just supposed to be a prank. Not on you either. It was supposed to be your sister, actually," Miles said looking at the floor.
I tried to process everything I had just heard.
"Y/n, I'd never try to hurt you. Or your sister. I swear," Miles added.
"It's fine," I replied.
"Just fine?" He asked.
"I know it was just a prank. Everyone needs a clean slate. Plus it's not the first time I've been through a traumatic experience," I joked around.
Miles reached for my hand.
"I don't like to be pitied," I responded removing my hand.
"Wow, I really sound like a jerk," He chuckled.
"You're not," I reassured him holding his hand.
We both smiled at each other. I live for little moments like this. It's just like time stops. Miles leaned in for a moment and kissed me on the cheek.
"Wanna go horseback riding tomorrow?" He asked.
"Of course," I said overjoyed.
"Goodnight," He said getting up and leaving the room.
Oh, how much I wanted him to stay...
