For the past few weeks, Kate hasn't been the same.  She's talked less, ate less, and she's been super paranoid.  She told me Miles was dangerous.  But how could I believe that?  He's been nothing but nice to me ever since we moved here.  And how can you blame him for being rude?  His parents died, his only real family is his younger sister, and he was born into privilege.  I thought I'd check anything suspicious about him, though.  After all, she is still my sister.
"Miles?"  I said pacing back and forth in his room as he was using the bathroom.
"Yeah?"  He responded.
"So.. did you, do anything to Kate?  Like, did you scare, or tell her something?"  I continued.
He came out of the bathroom.
"What are you talking about?"  He questioned, walking up to me.
"Well, Kate has been paranoid.  Ever since flashlight tag, a few weeks ago?"
"I didn't.  Well, when she took Flora in the car, I guess I told her I was gonna kill her?"  Miles answered casually.
"Miles- what?  You basically threatened her!"
"It was a joke?  What am I supposed to say?"  He questioned and chuckled to himself.
"This isn't funny.  And, she saw something in the basement.  What's down there?"
"Not much.  Old furniture probably.  Family photos?"  He shrugged.

"Let's check,"  Y/n said grabbing his arm.  "We need a flashlight, though."
Miles grabbed a flashlight from one of his drawers and lead her to the basement.  They both crept down the stairs.  It was still day time but pitch black down there.  That is, until Miles turned on the flashlight, being their only source of light.
    "You scared?"  He chuckled.
    "No.."  Y/n responded quietly.
He was right, though.  There was nothing but junk down there.  Y/n then spotted a photograph on the ground.  It was a photo of a baby.  And it looked like a bunch of photos were scattered everywhere.  Miles grabbed the photo out of Y/n's hands.
    "Hey!"  She yelled.
"No need to see that,"  He responded in a whisper, a bit embarrassed.
Y/n quickly realized the baby photo was his, and resulted her into laughter.
    "Shut up,"  Miles uttered.
"You're just so cute though!"  Y/n answered trying to get the photo out of his hands.
Her laughter immediately turned to silence when she saw a shadow pass by.
    "What's wrong?"  He asked her.
"D-Did you see that?"  She pointed towards the reaction and began to walk towards it.
Miles pulled her back by her arm.
"I don't think that's a good idea.  It was probably just in your head,"
"Well then, if it was in my head, it shouldn't be a problem for me to check it out,"  She took another step but Miles didn't let go of her hand.
"Miles?"  She repeated.  "Miles- you're hurting me,"
It felt like when you get your blood pressure taken at the doctor's, and each time you would move it would get tighter.  The crazed look in his eyes didn't even resemble Miles.  He slowly let go of his tight grip.
    "Y/n?  What's wrong?"  He asked.
There were tears forming in her eyes.  She didn't even look at him.  All she did was tug her arm back and run upstairs.  Miles was extremely confused.  The last thing he remembered was them talking about his baby photo, and then suddenly she was in tears?  He felt a strong headache take over him.
"Shit!"  He yelled and dropped to the floor, along with his baby photo crumpled in one hand.

"KATE!"  Y/n shouted as she ran into her sister's room.
Kate was just staring out of her room window.  She turned around and faced Y/n.
"Hey, are you okay?"  Kate asked her distressed sister and brought her to sit down on the bed.  "What happened"
"Miles- I- We were in the basement trying to see if anything was down there since we know you might've saw something down there.  And, I thought I saw a shadow?  I don't know- something passed by.  So I tried to walk towards it but Miles grabbed my hand and said he didn't think that was a good idea.  So he- he grabbed my hand and.."  Y/n rambled on to her sister but couldn't finish her sentence.  She refused to believe Miles would do such a thing.  At least to her.
Kate sat down next to her sister and rubbed her back.
"It's okay.  Take your time.  Maybe we should take some time out of the house?  And you can tell me the rest later,"  Kate offered and wiped her sister's tears.
Y/n smiled a bit and nodded her head.
"That would be nice,"  She said.
Later that day, Kate and Y/n got ready to go out.  And they both really needed it.  They drove out to the mall, grabbed some burgers, had ice cream, went to an arcade, even saw a movie.  They did things they really enjoyed doing when they were younger.  Things.. that they'd do when their dad was still around.  Things they'd do while their mother was still sane.  They were good times.  Long ago, but still overall, good times.  But they eventually had to come back to the Fairchild residence.  When they entered the house, their faces instantly changed.  It's not like they expected to come back to a whole new decorated home.  It's just, it didn't feel like home.  Y/n walked up to her bedroom and peeked into Miles' room.  He was playing the drums.  She realized he must been upset.  She pushed the door slightly open and walked in.  But Miles didn't even acknowledge her.  She stood in front of him, determined to find out what was hiding in the basement and why he didn't want her to walk towards it.
    "Miles?"  She called.
He didn't look up and continued to bang his drums.
    "Are you okay?"  She asked.
He stopped banging the drums and looked up at her.
    "Leave,"  He whispered.
"Miles, I- I just wanna know something,"  She continued.
"I said LEAVE!"  He shouted at her standing up.
When she entered the room, her heart was still together.  Now as she left it, it was crumbling apart.
