Kate walked into the room, closing the door behind her, as she entered.
    "Hi,"  She spoke.
Y/n lifted her head and sat straight up. Miles just acted like Kate wasn't even there.
"Um.. I-I brought you guys something.. in town," Kate added handing both, Miles and Y/n something.
"It's... this. It's just this great album." Kate told Miles.
"Thanks," Miles answered in somewhat of a whisper.
"Oh, and I got you an album too, Y/n. I know that mom used to listen to it.. so," Kate continued.
Kate sat down on a chair across from Miles and Y/n.
"So.. I know how, close, you and Quint were," Kate added.
"Yeah, he was my friend," Miles shrugged.
"Yeah. That must be really tough," There was a pause. "Do you want to talk about it?" Kate asked.
Miles sighed.
"Not really," He replied.
Miles stood up and walked over to his drum set. Kate kept trying to make conversation as Y/n was quietly in the previous seat Miles was just sitting at.
"Well you know, something kind of similar happened to me when I was your age and I wished I had someone to talk to," Kate recalled.
Y/n knew that she was referencing to their mother's illness and how their father abandoned them.
Miles banged the drums.
Kate jumped and sighed.
"Ah, okay," was all she said. "Look, i'm not trying to replace Quint,"
Miles banged his drums again causing Kate to jump, again. Y/n just watched, not knowing what she should say or do. Kate looked back at her sister with a look on her face that just 'screamed' for assistance. Y/n just shrugged. Kate looked back at Miles.
"Can you sto-" Kate started but Miles' drums cut her off. "Miles,"
He banged the drums again causing Kate to jump.
"Can you please stop?" Kate asked again.
Do you think he stopped? No, he didn't. Kate sighed and put her hands up admitting 'defeat' by leaving the room. Kate left the room closing the door behind her. You could still hear the drums from outside of his room. Meanwhile, as Miles continued banging on the drums Y/n rushed over to him. She held his hands taking the drumsticks as Miles slowly broke down into her arms. He had never seemed so broken. Especially in front of her. As Y/n held him into her arms you could hear small, quiet sobs from Miles. She rubbed his back trying to calm him down. And while Kate was on the other side of the door, all she heard was the drums getting quieter and quieter, as Y/n's voice became the only sound in the room.

Kate, Y/n and Flora were in the living room.  Kate was looking outside of the window, Flora was painting and Y/n was reading.  Basically a normal morning for them.
"Flora!  Can you paint at your desk please?"  Kate asked.
"I paint better over here,"  Flora pointed out stirring her paint brush in water.
"No, you're gonna get paint all over the floor,"  Kate replied.
"'Kay fine, I'm finished anyways,"  Flora said.  "Wanna see?"
    "Sure,"  Kate said walking over.
"What is this?"  Kate asked in fear.
"Me and Ms. Jessel."  Flora answered.
Kate looked back at the painting and Y/n walked over to look.
"Doesn't this.. look.. a bit strange to you?"  Kate whispered over to her sister.
Y/n looked over at the painting.
"Kids draw weird stuff all the time.  They're kids, it's not that serious, Kate.  You can calm down, okay?"  Y/n said putting her arm on Kate's shoulder.
"Yeah, you're probably right,"  Kate agreed scoffing.
"Can we play flashlight tag now?"  Flora asked.
Kate shaked her head side to side.
    "No,"  She answered.
    "But you promised,"  Flora whined.
"Yeah Kate, you promised,"  Miles said randomly appearing from the hallway. "You don't wanna let Flora down, do you?"
Y/n smiled when she heard the curly haired boy's voice.
"You promised, you promised, you promised," Flora repeated while circling around Kate.
Y/n stood up.
"It'll be fun, Kate," Y/n said walking over to her sister.
"Okay, okay, okay, okay," Kate agreed. "Just... what are the rules?"
"Turn off all the lights. You have to find us with this," Miles explained holding a flashlight. "If you flash us, we're dead,"
"You're it!" Flora tagged Kate running away with Miles and Y/n. "Call out the state capitols, no peeking! Come on, come on, come on,"
Kate started to search for all of them.
"Alaska! Juno. Arizona. Phoenix," Kate called out but paused after she crossed upon a photo of Miles, Flora, and Quint.
Kate then continued to search for them.
"Gotcha!" Kate turned around as she pointed the flashlight at Flora, causing her to squeal.
"I'm dead! I'm dead. Oh! I'm dead. Aah!" Flora called out.
There were footsteps coming from down the stairs.
"Is Miles or Y/n down there?" Kate asked Flora.
"Maybe," Flora replied.
"You wanna come with me to find them?" Kate questioned.
"I can't. I'm dead. OooOooOooOoo," Flora answered making 'ghost' noises. Kate started to walk down the stairs.

As Miles and Y/n hid for what felt like hours, they quit the game. They tried to find Kate to tell her but they couldn't, so instead, they shouted out that they were done playing. They left a note, too. But as time passed they didn't really acknowledge that they haven't seen Kate since the beginning of the game. After flashlight tag, Miles, Flora and Y/n were in another one of the living rooms. Flora and Mrs. Grose were playing chess, while Miles and Y/n shared a pop tart and just talked.
"You!" Kate shouted at Miles.
"Kate. Oh my god! What happened to your face?" Mrs. Grose stood up and looked at Kate.
"Kate, are you okay?" Y/n asked her sister.
Kate was unaware that she had a bloody nose, so she touched underneath her nose and walked over to a mirror.
"Explain yourself!" Kate yelled walking closer to Miles.
"I was hungry?" Miles said taking a bite out of his half eaten pop tart.
"I am SICK of the games!" Kate got louder.
"Don't talk to them like that," Mrs. Grose spoke.
"He has been terrorizing me, since day one!" Kate explained.
"Don't be ridiculous. He's been here with me, for the last fifteen minutes," Mrs. Grose defended. "The only person who has been doing the terrorizing around here, is you!"
Kate looked at the mirror behind Mrs. Grose full of shock.
"Now what are you doing?" Mrs. Grose asked.
"Kate.. maybe you should go to sleep? To just calm yourself," Y/n stood up and walked to her sister.
"N-No! I'm fine. But.. Miles was there!" Kate continued.
"Kate. Miles and I were hiding together. We left a note in your room saying we weren't hiding anymore. We were together the whole time. I don't think he was there. After all, it was pretty dark. Maybe you thought you saw him?" Y/n defended Miles.
"You know what? Forget it," Kate ran out of the living room.
Y/n sighed. Kate was starting to act like their mother.
Miles walked up to Y/n and hugged her from behind. He had a tight grip. It didn't feel forceful, but instead it felt protective. Y/n looked down.
"Is everything alright?" Miles asked.
"Yeah. Everything's fine," Y/n faked a smile.

in all honesty, i have no idea how i am going to end this book.  like- should it just be a 'regular' fanfiction for now???  or, should i keep going with the 'original plot.'  if i use the original plot i'm going to use the alternate ending instead of the regular one :')
