(Y/N) walked down the sidewalk her nose buried in her book. She was so immersed in the world she didn't realize where she was going.

She gasped in shock accidentally stumbling into someone and nearly falling over if the person didn't reach out a hand to steady her.

    "Are you alright?"

(Y/N) looked up into concerned brown eyes. "Yes, I'm so sorry." She apologized quickly.

"No, no please allow me." The handsome stranger replied picking up (Y/N)'s book from the ground. He glanced at the cover as he handed it back to her. "The City of Fallen Angels?"

"Have you read it?" (Y/N) asked smiling as she took it back.

"I have not had the pleasure." He answered. "Will you tell me about it, Miss?"

(Y/N) managed a nod. "(Y/N)." She answered giving her name. "I'd love to talk with you about it."

"Elijah." He told her offering his arm.

(Y/N) accepted linking her arm with his.

Elijah led them to a coffee shop. He opened the door like a gentleman and pulled (Y/N)'s chair out making her blush.

After their coffee was ordered Elijah gestured for (Y/N) to talk. The book was sitting on the table between them.

(Y/N) smiled and brushed her fingers against the cover. "It's written by Cassandra Clare. The first book is The City of Bones." She began. "It's a story about nephilim, children of the angel Raziel. But there's an evil hunter who thinks all downworlders should be destroyed. It's a story about the war between both nephilim factions."

"And downworlders would be?" Elijah asked.

"Oh, warlocks, werewolves, fae, and vampires." (Y/N) explained. "Of course they all have their weaknesses. But that varies with different lore."

"You're fond of reading." Elijah stated more than asked. He seemed amused by her last statement.

"I'll read anything I can get my hands on." (Y/N) said with a smile. "Even Shakespeare."

Elijah returned her smile at that. "His works are quite fascinating." He agreed.

The two of them talked for hours on end until finally they had to part ways. "I had a good time. Thank you Elijah." (Y/N) smiled as he walked her to her car.

"As did I." Elijah smiled wishing her a goodnight.

Weeks had passed and both Elijah and (Y/N) stayed in contact. The two often exchanged books. Elijah had taken her on a few dates but more often they were found strolling through the park together before curling up on a bench and talking about anything in the world. The relationship was an odd mix of a mutual friendship and something slightly deeper and romantic. Neither could quite put their finger on it.
