Him

The house looms in the distance. The chilly, autumn wind bites at my nose as I make my way to the weird place my parents call home, for the second time this week. The house gets closer and closer but my footsteps feel slower and slower and I feel as if I will never make it. But eventually I do and just as I am about to ring the bell, a hand suddenly grabs my shoulder. I jump and almost trip over my own feet.

"Don't do that!" I yell before I even get to look at the guy.

The man coughs, "Oh, I'm sorry, did I scare you?"

I make a face, "No, I just- I wasn't expecting it okay?"

"Yeah sure believe whatever you want kid," his voice is so unbelievably gruff and raspy, I almost can't bear to hear it. "I came here to tell you something important. I wouldn't waste my time coming all the way over here to see an ugly individual like yourself if it wasn't important."

I raise my eyebrows, "And you are?"

"Well, you're Zack Woodgreen," the man replies.

"I asked your name, I already know mine. And how do you know my name. Have I met you before?"

The man smirks, "Well, you're an idiot. I don't know if you know this or not, kid, but practically the whole world knows you."

His tone is so matter-of-fact, I want to laugh out loud. Me, famous? This guy must be confusing me with someone else. But then again he knows my name. So..

"Look, dude, I don't know what you're talking about so why don't you just leave?" I begin to walk past him towards the house, but he grabs my shoulder again. I sigh and turn around.

"Look, kid," he says, "You don't wanna go in there," he jabs his finger in the direction of the house.

"You're saying I can't visit my parents?"

He rolls his eyes, "I'm saying you can't go in the house. It's dangerous," he adds as an afterthought.

"And you expect me to believe a random guy who I have never met before and just happens to know my name and what I am doing."

"Well you're a difficult dude."

"Sorry for being cautious."

"You wanna find your sister, kid?" he asks suddenly.

I narrow my eyes, "How do you-,"

He grabs my shirt, "Answer my question!"

"Um, yeah. Yeah, of course I do," I say, totally caught off gaurd.

"Well, then I suggest you turn around and walk back to where you came from. Oh, and you'll go through the woods if you know what's good for you."

I open my mouth to speak but his glare cuts me off. I nod and he lets go of my shirt. But before I turn around, I catch a glimpse of movement out of the corner of my eye. As my head turns, the curtains jerk shut. The creepy man sees this too and he pushes me down the steps forcing me to go back before I even have a chance to think about what that means.
