A recent robbery has occurred at Westers Jewelry Store. The thief is said to have been a young girl of about fifteen. Witnesses say she has been spotted on the streets, often begging for money or food. No one else was caught on camera running from the store. Reporters say she was desperate for money and had no other way of getting it so she was forced to steal. (see photo below)
I stop reading at this point. The picture shows a young girl running from the store, a frightened expression on her face. I'd recognize that face anywhere, even with the dirt and grime plastered all over it. They are accusing my sister of stealing from a jewelry store.
The first thought that runs through my head after reading this is that she is living on the streets. I look around my huge home, with its multiple rooms and elegant furniture, and immediately feel guilty. But they cannot just accuse someone of theft just because they are homeless. Of course, I have no evidence that it was not her but I cannot believe for a second that it was her. She is too stubborn and would never take from others even if her life depended on it.
I am just about to put the newspaper away when I spot something. All the way in the top left corner is a man's head and one of his arms. In his hand is a fine piece of jewelry. I cannot tell exactly what type of jewelry but I do know that it is jewelry. The man is not wearing a mask and he looks oddly familiar. I am pretty sure I have seen him somewhere before but I do not know where. That means that Autumn did not steal anything. But that also means that the actual thief got away which is bad.
I have a terrible headache so I decided to get some sleep. As I am climbing the stairs, however, another thought comes to mind. Last night, at dinner, my mother asked me about my job. I never told her anything about me having a job so how did she know?
I'll go talk to her tomorrow, I decide and climb the rest of the stairs to my room.
