I picked up Jay's book she's been reading since we got here. Me Before You. Sounds dumb. I begin to read it page by page and I fall instantly into a trance. I feel like I'm in the book. The way she tried to love him in every possible way. His pain. WHY WOULD HE STILL GO THROUGH WITH IT?!

"Hey", I hear her angelic voice as she enters the room. I look up from her book and she smiles. I miss her smile.

"Are you reading my book?", she asks amused.

"What?", I toss the book to the other side of the couch. "No?", I scoff. I think she bought it.

"Okay.. What have you been doing?", she asks taking a seat next to me.

"You know.. Just hanging out", I hum looking around the room.

"Can I ask you something?", she says looking at me. I turn to her giving her my attention and nod. "What do you plan on doing after this honeymoon?", she asks randomly.

"What do you mean..", I say confused.

"I got a text from my dad before I came up here", she says looking at her phone now then she looks up at me and her eyes are watery. "He says tell Kai I am proud of him for choosing Harvard", tears slip past her cheek.

"Jay.. I-", I frown.

"You.. You said you wouldn't leave me.. You PROMISED me you wouldn't leave me", she cries.

"Jay I needed to decide.. You know more than anyone that Harvard is the best school", I try and reason.

She looks me up and down and I could see resentment in her eyes. I didn't want to hurt her. That was the last thing I wanted to do. "By the way Ethans coming over later", she says wiping her tears away starting up. "I'm gonna go take a shower", she mumbles and walks away.

Fuck.

When she gets out she is wearing black ripped jeans and white cropped long sleeve. She looked beautiful.

"Can we talk about this Jay", I say following her into the room.

"You obviously weren't going to tell me, so no. We can't talk about this", she says with venom clear in her tone. She is brushing out her hair and I sit next to her on the bed.

"Please... I never wanted to hurt you Jay", I sigh looking at her. She just looks away continuing to brush her hair.

"That's the thing Kai. That's all we do is hurt each other", she frowns. "All we've been doing since the day we met was hurt each other", I frown knowing she's right. "Maybe this", she says referring to us. "Is not going to work. Maybe we should just go back to being friends", she sighs.

"I don't want to just be friends with you Jay. I told you I loved you. Do you really think I want to be just your friend?", I scoff.

"Well what do you want me to say Kai? YOUR LEAVING! Get that through your head, how on earth can we be together if you're gonna be on the other side if the country", she whispers weakly.

"We can make it work Jay", I frown.

"I wouldn't want to put anyone in that situation", she frowns.

"Jay please", I feel tears slide down my face uncontrollably. "I love you", I cry harder.

She closes her eyes tightly and shakes her head. "We can't hurt each other anymore", she sighs opening her eyes.
