Chapter 3
Kronos POV.She stared down at me with unease. She seemed oddly familiar, but I just couldn't place her brownish blonde hair and golden eyes. I don't stare long.
She quickly adjusted her glasses, pushing them up her button nose and silently hid her confusion before smiling warmly.
"Welcome to the team, I'm Kayn Gale" She held out her hand, I gently shook it "If you need anything don't hesitate to ask me."I shook her hand, grinning softly "Thank you, I'm Kronos Lucio."
Her cheeks flushed a bit pink she nods then not sparing me any more time she escaped to her office. I small laugh escaped me. The woman forgot my name.
I slide into my desk. A small hourglass the only decoration, it was a bit old but you'd never know it looked as good as new. A few sand grains fall to the bottom. It wasn't an ordinary hourglass. It was a day glass, very rare, it only finished at exactly twenty-four hours. Extremely useful, I worked hard to get one.
I lean back in my office chair as I briefly rescan the file.Carrie Bobbin
22 years old
Suspected of killing all of her fiances the night before the wedding.
Suspected fallen.
No previous criminal records.
Fiance was found in the apartment with a few stab wounds.
Bobbin was found
Interesting. I spin my chair gently rocking back and forth.Although I already guess that she was most likely not a fallen, I was still intrigued as to why this young lady was mistaken for the despicable creatures that roam the earth. Humans are paranoid by instinct when they encounter things they cannot control, but who goes through the trouble of filing a report on a hunch. This could either be two things: the absolute bull or an interesting case.
I scribbled illegibly on my notepad, noting my thoughts carefully before grabbing my coat.
It was already pitch black outside. I wobbled to my car on chair cramped legs. The stillness of the night follows me as I make the lonely drive to my flat. After battling a long and arduous battle with my lock, I entered my house. It was a bit messy but totally mine. My dog, Jackie yaps twice before jumping at me. Smiling, I pat its head before I head into my bedroom.
What comes as a surprise for most is the lack of a bed, that is if you don't count Jackie's, but why have a bed if you don't sleep? My scythe leans lazily on the closet door, I retrieve it quickly before I head to my bathroom to change. I quick glance in the mirror. A thin scar runs from the middle of my back to my shoulder blades reminding me of my loss. I don't dwell on it before pulling on my leather pants and my robe, fastening on my mask.My mind returns to the little foxy woman I met yesterday. She had no fear of death and even had the audacity to threaten me. For a second I had even thought I had luckily stumbled across a fallen but I soon discovered she was all human... But a strange human.
As the Grim Reaper, for years I had seen people who killed without mercy. For years I have been the one to punish them, like the other heartless tainted murderers I had seen before. But I couldn't.
She was untainted, but how, I could not fathom.
When one commits a mortal sin a stain appears on their record. The murder was one such sin, but the difference lies in that it is an irreversible sin. Souls with the mark of murder are punished by death. She was an exception. She didn't bear the mark.
I re-enter the dark night. Uneasiness rushing through me.
