Kayn POV
Chapter 13"Kayn. I need you."
"Yazmin calm down! I'm on my way." I park my car and run into the hospital.
"Ma'am slow down." I ignore the calls of the people in the hospital as I rush to the ward.
I burst through the door.
Yasmin doesn't even look up. Tears stream down her face as she holds his hand and speaks in a low voice. I go to his other side and hold into his other hand crouching beside the bed."Kayn... Is that you?" A weak call comes from his lips.
"Shhh. Don't waste your energy speaking. " I feel tears welling up in my eyes.
He smiles faintly. I give his hand a faint squeeze as he leans against his pillow and inhales deeply.
"You know... I've always... Always loved you both." A small repressed cry comes from Yazmin as he speaks weakly. He looks over to her and smiles before he continues. "Baby, don't cry for me. I'm happy. I don't feel the pain anymore. I don't feel any pain anymore."Tears stream down my cheeks I sob "Dad you can't leave us."
"Darling, you both have grown up. You don't need me anymore. You both are successful young women." He coughs hoarsely " And don't start blaming yourself. You have done enough. You both are enough-"
Nothing
"Dad!"
The machine screeches loudly hammering into my skull. I know this sound. The siren of death.
Yazmin screams loudly, it doesn't sound real. Nothing in this situation feels real.Death
It happened again. It comes and it goes. Nothing I can do can stop the clock of death. It ticks.
It tocks
It never stops.Another person I love is gone.
I still remember when I was younger. The police had found me in my house. My entire family covered in blood. They didn't blame me... I think, they just took me out of the house and asked me a few questions. I'm not even sure I answered.
Days passed and this small family took me in. I was in a strange house. In a strange neighborhood and I was scared.
Their daughter talked to me and joked. Taking me everywhere with her and was never disappointed when I didn't say anything to her and just started at nothing. The mom and dad was worried about me. I didn't speak. I could barely sleep without being wracked with nightmares screaming and thrashing about in my sleep.
"Kay! Look! I caught a grass hopper! C'mon give me your hand!" Yazmin cheerfully cried grabbing my hand and running around the park."Kay! Look at those fishes! So pretty! When we get home ill ask daddy to buy one and we'll feed it and take care of it." She squeezed my hand happily. "Oh look! There's daddy."
She let go of my hand and ran to him screaming 'daddy! daddy!' unlike usual he didn't laugh happily.
"Daddy, what's wrong?""Sweetie... It's your mom."
"Is something wrong with mommy?"
"Remember how me and mommy told you guys that mommy was very sick."
We both nod.
"Be-because she was sick... She... She left... And she isn't coming back."
"No!" Yazmin screamed. "Mommy?! Mommy where are you?"
She darted into the park screaming as she went.
"Mommy? Are you hiding in here waiting for me to find you? Don't worry, I'll find you."
She ran and ran, but I stayed behind her. Soon she got tired and stopped crawling under to the branch of a tree she hugged her knees and sobbed.
"Kay... Do you know where my mommy is?" She asks, tears soaking her face. " Did I do something wrong? Does mommy not want me anymore?"
I didn't speak. I just curled up next to her and gave her a hug. Comforting her without words.
Days passed. The rolls reversed. I dragged Yazmin around to see dragonflies and to watch people stating in the skatepark. I wrapped my arms around her when she cried and made funny faces at her to cheer her up.
For a long time I haven't seen the girl who chased her mom till her legs bled. And who caught grasshoppers for fun instead of locking herself in her room.
But today I saw her. Huddling against the chair and sobbing hard as she struggled to keep herself together.
Death never quite let's us go, does it?A/N.
