The next morning, Lord Canterville met Mr. Otis and they talked about the jewels that the ghost had left for Virginia. They were priceless and Mr. Otis was not comfortable with the idea of keeping them with his daughter. Sir Canterville being the legal descendant, had every right to possess them.
Mr. Otis wanted to retain the empty jewel box as a momento for Virginia because she also desired to do so.Lord Canterville insisted that Virginia should keep them as she had been an angel who had saved the soul of Sir Simon. Above all, Mr. Otis had acquired Mr. Simon's property by purchase along with the ghost, he had every right on anything that belonged to Sir Simon.
