I Think He Knows

#107

●●●

"I don't think I should be here," Archer Nevyn, Oli's father, told them the moment they arrived at the Evans' residence. Eurydice, Oli's mom, shook her head because of her husband's remark. Hinawakan na lang nito ang braso ng asawa.

They're all currently in front of the door of the house.

"It's been years. We are all in out sixties,  it'll be fine," Eury told her husband. Katabi naman nila ang anak na si Oli. Oli was smiling widely while holding a bouquet of sunflowers. He's going to ask her wife's hand formally together with his parents.

Everything was like a deja vu. The emotions he is currently feeling that day is just the same the first time they met each other in New York.

"I just have a hunch Jacob's going to beat the crap out of me," Archer kept talking as Eury jokingly rolled her eyes. His father was even more nervous in meeting the Evans family.

"He's not going to beat out the crap out of you--"

The door suddenly swung open and it was Jacob Evans who opened the door for them.

"Hi, Eury," Jake then looked at Archer, "Fucking hi, Anjo."

And everything was fast when Jake Evans threw a punch on his father's face.

"Ang tatanda na ninyo at nakikibasag-ulo pa kayo," It was Zooey Evans who was lecturing the two old men. Eurydice was currently putting an ice bag on the bruise near her husband's chin. Jake, on the other hand, was just looking down, and did not even try to glance at his raging wife.

Sierra was also sitting beside her dad while Oli was getting a first aid kit from the kitchen.

"I wouldn't punch him too if he didn't attack me first," Archer tried to reason out when Eurydice immediately pinched the side of his stomach. Napa-aray naman ito.

"Huwag ka ng sumagot," She told him off.

"Isaac Jacob, they're our guests and you don't welcome our guests by punching one of them!" Zooey sermoned and Jake was still looking down, terrified of his wife's wrath. Oli, who  had now came back with the first aid kit, put the kit down on the center table of the living room.

"Malaki ang atraso niya sa 'kin 'nung college. He deserved to be punched, Ma," Jake reasoned out, enough to make Sierra's eyes roll.

"And I paid for it," Archer replied, "I repented, I paid for the shits that I have done to you and to my wife. I didn't march the college graduation, I was prohibited to take the engineering board exams. I even lost my wife during that time on the process. I paid the consequences - and I'm regretting what I did every day in my life."

"And it's not enough," Jacob added.

"My god, dad, senior citizen na kayo, don't be overdramatic!" Sierra reacted as she stood up and stormed out the living room - and she signalled Oli discreetly to come with her.

Oli shook his head and followed his wife. Pumasok naman silang dalawa sa kwarto nito - leaving their parents  alone to resolve their own issues.

"I'm sorry, I mean, I didn't expect asking for your hand would become like this," Oli said as Sierra locked the door of her room. She looked at her husband and gave him a naughty smile.

"It's alright, they're old and they need to resolve their longtime issues," Sierra answered as she slowly walked towards him.

Oli chuckled and held his wife closer to him, "You're making me nervous with that smile right now."
