I Think He Knows

Thebes, Egypt

"Dr. Velasco! You're finally back!"

Kaagad namang sinalubong si Oli ng kasamahan niya sa research. Harry Attenborough was an intern that was currently helping with his research in Thebes, Egypt. Currently, they were studying some excavation sites near the area. They were actually five on the team, with some interns and staff that also have been involved. He was the lead researcher for the team.

He gave a tight smile at the young intern, "Yes, it's been a month."

After going back to New York and not attending the wedding, he stayed at the city for more than two weeks, contemplating everything that happened in his life. He needed time alone to compose himself. Then the other day, he decided just go back to his old life - his archaeology career. Maybe, somehow, it'll divert his thoughts.

"I just heard this from the other staff of the research team that you were attending your best friend's wedding that was why you weren't here," Harry started as they walked together examining the sites.

"I didn't attend," He simply answered him. Then he stopped to check the site. After that, he instructed some of research staff to dig more. Umalis na rin silang dalawa ni Harry sa excavation site.

"So, she got married?" Harry asked him like he knew everything and Oli stopped his feet from walking.

He sighed, now, facing the intern. It was windy and the sun was full-bright.

"Yes, she got married," He answered.

"I didn't get married."

Oli froze when he heard a familiar voice.

Then he slowly turned himself around and saw her.

In a beautiful white sundress, her hair flying freely from her face and then his eyes stared at the letter she was holding, the letter he had given her two weeks ago.

Sierra Evans is in Egypt. In front of him.

His heart almost stopped beating.

"Are all the words that you have written in the letter... are all of it true?" She asked him. He couldn't read her face clearly but he was sure he wasn't hallucinating that the woman he loves was in front of him.

"Yes," He answered her honestly that he could feel his emotions bursting out anytime again, "I love you with all my heart and I'm sorry if it took so long for me to say this to you..."

Sierra smiled as tears started to flow in her eyes.

She suddenly ran towards him and hugged him tightly. Oli embraced her also like he never wants to let her go.

Then he started to cry as well.

He then cupped her cheeks when they freed themselves from the hug, "I don't understand, h-how? Why didn't you get married?" He asked her, his voice trembling.

"When I've read your letter, I cried. I know... or maybe... marrying Julien was the safest choice that I have... but then it wouldn't be you. I asked him to give me time to think. The wedding got postponed. He gave me two weeks to decide..." She answered him, trying to stop her tears from falling.

"And I'm here... because I chose you... and I'll choose you over and over again. Even if fate will constantly separate us, I'll keep choosing you," She added.

Oli stiffled a light laugh - and he kissed her, slowly and passionately.

Then he stopped, still cupping her face, he spoke, "Sorry if it took me ten years..."

Sierra giggled, trying to catch her breath because of their kiss, "Better than twenty."
