"I didn't expect that you'll go all the way in here..." Sierra started the moment the two of them settled down at one of the benches inside the university's soccer field. It was windy and the weather was cold since it was already December.
Oli smiled and looked at the soccer players playing at the field, "I just want to see if you're okay, you haven't responded to my messages."
Sierra bit her lip in embarrassment and looked down, "I'm sorry, I just... I just feel sad and disappointed about myself. Malapit na kasi sana eh... My application got accepted but I couldn't even make it to get casted for VS. I'm actually ashamed of myself."
"I was supposed to go to New York and we could see each other again... but I didn't get casted."
"Even if you didn't get casted, I'm proud of you, Sierra," Oli assured her and she giggled. She immediately held her best friend's arm and snuggled closer.
"I miss you, are you going to stay here longer?" She asked and she noticed his face changing its expression.
"I just wanted to see you so I booked a flight abruptly... I had a project coming up, I'll be back in the airport in an hour," Oli answered, "What about you? Don't you have class?"
"And you came all the way here just to see if I'm okay?"
Oli smiled sheepishly and scratched awkwardly the back of his neck, "I guess that's what would best friends do."
Sierra smiled genuinely and instantly hugged him. Oli was surprised at what she did at first and hugged her back.
"I have class in thirty minutes, let's use every second we have right now," She said in between their hug. Niyakap naman siya ng mahigpit ni Oli. She could even feel him kissing her hair.
"Even though you didn't get casted, we're still friends, Shie..." Oli whispered and she smiled again.
"Of course, we're always going to be friends, you're still my best friend."
"I'm still proud of you," Oli added, "No matter what your dreams are, I believe in you."
Sierra didn't expect what he just said. She just closed her eyes and hugged him more.
"I miss you, Oli," She replied sincerely, "Sorry if I couldn't make it back to New York."
"It's fine. I can just book a ticket and fly here," He mumbled, "I'll go to the Philippines instead, you don't have to fly to New York."
They were hugging for almost thirty minutes. Sierra finally freed herself from the hug. Her eyes were even getting watery now. How she appreciate him so much for being always there for her.
"I guess, I have to go to my class na," She told him and tried to laugh. Oli also gave her a smile and she suddenly felt giddy when she saw him smiling. Napatayo na rin silang dalawa.
"I'll be back this Christmas," Oli assured her, tucking some stands of hair that was covering her eyes behind her ears, "Take care, Sierra."
Sierra shook her head and kissed him on the cheek.
"Thank you, take care too, Oli," She said and waved a goodbye, turning her back at him.
