This is the first cheerleading practise that I have been to. In my defence sport started a week ago and I still had to get to get my uniform tailored. So you can say that I am a nervous wreck when I walk into the Gymnasium.

I feel a person hook their arm around my shoulder and look to my side to that it’s Kate.

“Look who decided to grace us with her presence,” Kate says and I immediately blush.

“Had to get my uniform tailored,” I finally manage to say. “Oh, and Ally couldn’t come because she has to practise something for Etiquette or Drama.”

“OK. Well today I just want you to sit back and see how we work. I don’t want you diving in headfirst into something that you don’t know.”

“Are you the captain?”

“Affirmative.”

“Cool. So is this gonna be the hard-core cheerleading where we do flips and stuff?”

“No, not really, this is the training of the part where we chant songs ‘and stuff’.”

I breathe out a sigh of relief, “Well that seems easy enough.”

“And we’ll teach you how to notice things, like Cove ops, and how to swiftly pull out a smoke bomb or hand grenade while holding other people in the pyramid and not letting them fall.”

“I think I prefer the flips. So I’ll basically have 2 Cove Ops classes in one day,” I groan out.

“Hey, you make Cove Ops seem like a bad subject.”

“It is when Mr Deyton is your teacher.”

“Deyton? He’s, like, the best teacher ever!”

“What? He absolutely loathes me and I have no idea why.”

“Oh shame. But today you’ll have some form of relief since you will be sitting down. OOH seems like we have two other latecomers. Now you will have some people to talk to”

“Great,” I sarcastically mumble.

I walk over to the benches and notice Anna Chesterton and sit next to her.

“Hey Anna,” I say.

“Oh hey Kristen!” she enthusiastically greets. Anna has a thing for calling people by their full names; it’s actually quite funny considering how she would kill you if you called her by her full name which is Annabel. “This is Tara Conway. She has a broken wrist which is why she doesn’t come to combat classes.

“Hey Kristen! Motorcycle accident,” Tara says while gesturing to her wrist.

“Hey, Tara. You can call me Kris. Are you two in the same group?” I ask them.

“Yeah, actually, we are.” Anna answers.

“Though it doesn’t really feel like it to me. Most of the special classes I just go to my room except for Cove Ops,” Tara complains. “Hey, what’s with you and Deyton?”

“You tell me. The guy has disliked me since day one and I have done nothing to him,” I say completely exasperated. I feel like a broken record explaining my hate-hate relationship with Deyton.

“I think he’ll totally love you after what you were said today in class,” Anna sarcastically says with a giggle.

“I just had enough of his shit,” I say.

“What did he say to you when you guyz went outside?” Tara asks.

“Nothing worth repeating,” I say with a shrug.
