After we get ourselves settled on the floor of our huge dorm the door knob moves and in come 4 new faces.
“Hey, hey, hey! What’s up ladies and gentlemen?” says a guy with braces and messy bitter-chocolate coloured hair.
“Damn! You guyz are a really big group aren’t ya?” I say when I see all of them together. “Are there any more hiding in the closet or something?”
“Ha, very funny, Kris,” Ally says while rolling her eyes. “Yes, we are a big group”.
Andy stands up and clears his throat, “OK, that girl is Lissa, the guy with braces is Andrew, Jordan the strawberry blond and the only other blond in our group is Charles’ twin Zach. Lissa is the really organised and sensible person of our group, Andrew is the mastermind behind all of our plans, Jordan thinks he’s the shit and Zach also believes he’s Prince Charming,” Andy finishes and ploppes himself next to me again.
“OK then, Kris. Since you know us, I think we should know you,” Andrew says.
“Well, there isn’t much to know about me. I guess you could call me smart and I have a knack for making lame jokes and being sarcastic,” I say.
“Cool then. Well, I feel the need to tell you about this school’s true nature. SNH is more of a spy school and the main reason why we are all friends is because we, including you now, are in this team together now”.
“WHAT?? This is a what?”
“It’s a school for training future spies, which is why YOU don’t apply, THEY ask you to come in. They judge you by your academic achievements, athletic ability and also your mental capacity; there’s a difference between cramming your work the day before a test and actually being able to solve problems on the spot,” Zach says.
“Yep. Thing is: the parental units don’t know a thing. Only those in the school, past students and The Big Guyz high up know about SNH’s true identity,” adds Charles
“In terms of spy group personalities Andy is the muscle, Andrew is our computer geek paired with Lissa our hacker; Asa is our weapons expert; Charles, Ally and I are the inside ‘men’; Kris, you and Zach are our acrobatic experts since you’ve both done gymnastics and you guyz also double-up become inside ‘men’. There are more things we can all do but those are each of our main abilities,” Zach explains
“How many groups are there?” I hesitantly ask.
“There should about 5 groups of 8 people per grade meaning there are maybe … 160 people in the whole school,” Ally explains.
“Your class schedule should be on your work desk,” Asa says.
“’Kay c’mon Kris I think you should come with me and we’ll get some snacks,” Ally says while she pulls me up to my feet and leads me to the kitchen.
“Dude, were you guyz serious about the whole ‘spy school’ thing because it seems totally unrealistic,” I say to Ally as I grab a packet of Lays.
“We’re not lying, Kris. Think about it though: it makes sense to train the younger generation for working as spies or something like that. Haven’t you ever watched those shows about FBI cases that were solved and stuff?” Ally says.
“Well, not me, my dad likes watching those shows and my mom sometimes watches with him, but I’ve never really shown any interest in those shows; they don’t seem very realistic to me.”
“They’re real, this is real, and even if you don’t really understand then ignore the things you don’t and find something that you do understand and hold on to it. That’s what we all do and how we survive.”
