A Wolf's Soul

Chapter 3

Luna gulped as she stood in front of a door. Not just any door, though. A big sign read: A.Nottingham, Headmistress
Jasper pushed her forward. "Bye Lunette. I'll wait. Maybe."
Luna had only known Jasper for half an hour, and he was already driving her crazy.
"Jasper! I'm warning you..."

Jasper gave her a hard push.

Luna knocked nervously. The door swung open and Luna entered the room.

"Ah, Lunette. I'm glad to see Jaswinder brought you here safely. Please take a seat"
Luna settled down on to a wooden chair, studying the headmistress.
Mrs. Nottingham was a plump woman with a stern smile. Luna reckoned she could be nice, but quite harsh towards troublemakers. Mrs. Nottingham explained everything again, even adding a bit Jasper hadn't told her. "There are five stages of being a Canis Transformis, it depends how happy you are.
Beginner. You have absolutely no control.
Amateur. You know who you are and what you are, but you can't control it.
Hoper. You can control it a little bit.
Believer: You're gaining even more control over your animal form.
Transformer: You've got complete control over it.
After transformer, the soul will leave you, to join the animal, which will become your protector. Most children come here as Beginners. Like you. "
Luna nodded.

"Finally, please don't get into trouble with Jaswinder. You may go"

Luna darted out of the room, right into Jasper. "Woah there, Lunette!"
Giggling filled the room and Luna spotted five other children. Three girls were giggling like mad, make-up thick on their face. They stood around a handsome boy, whom was looking rather bored. Another girl was standing in the corner, she had wolf ears and a wolf tail. When Luna gazed at her, the girl blushed, turning away. Jasper rolled his eyes. "Those three girls are Neveah Williams, Kylie Johnson and Carson Macalister." He snorted with laughter. "Werepoodles. The boy they're crowding about is Timothy Coole. He's the cool guy. The guy everyone knows." He sounded jealous. "That girl in the corner is Alice Engle. Apparently, everything went wrong, so she got the ears and the tail. She'll be your roommate. She's weird."
Luna turned to Jasper. "I'm going to go to bed.", she said.
Jasper frowned. "But you don't know where the dormitory is!"

"Alice does. Goodnight."

She stalked off, towards Alice. "Hello, I'm Luna Lupus. I'm new. Would you show me to the dormitory is?"
Alice looked around, as if to say: Are you talking to me?
Then, she smiled shyly. She said: "Hi. I'm Alice Engle. I'm a werewolf, you might see. I guess you're a werewolf too, right? Come with me!" Luna and Alice talked for a while, Alice began to relax more.

"So how come you've got wolf ears and tail?"

"Don't forget the eyes and teeth. Anyway, something went wrong when I first transformed. No one knows what. It was pretty hard to hide this all from my parents, but somehow I managed for six months until they noticed. I was picked up by Neveah." Her yellow eyes darkened. She obviously didn't like her. Luna nodded. "How do the dorms work?"

"Well first, it's sorted by animal. So there's a corridor for us werewolves, with different stairs leading to dorms. Then, girls and boys are separated. Finally, 1st and 2nd years and 3rd and 4th years are put together. Since there are only five years in St.Lupa's, 5th years have their own. Werewolves are quite uncommon. Almost all of them are bullies. I'm the only one in the 1st and 2nd year dormitory for girls. I'm so glad you've come." Luna nodded. "I'm sure we'll become good friends!"
Alice smiled sadly. "That would be nice. No one likes me. I'm weird. I have a tail and wolf ears. I'm still a beginner, because I'm still sad here."
They walked down the werewolf corridor and Alice led Luna up the stairs. "You'll be in our class, Luna. We aren't a big class. Timothy, Jaswinder, Me, Leo, Angelica, Jade, Felicity, Duke and Nadia. We're a tiny class, in fact."
She handed Luna her timetable, to see what classes they had. No maths, no geography, no boring subjects. Latin, Roman history, Dog-Language, which was called Dogish, Forest survival, and lots of other exiting things. They even had to take extra lessons about their Soul-Transformer animal. Luna clambered into bed, almost falling asleep immediately, dreaming of Wolf ears, prankster boys and whips.
