My name is Danika Warren. I wanted to tell you a little bit about who I was before I found out everything I knew about my existence was a lie. I was eighteen and pretty much as average as any other Canadian girl my age could get. I considered myself an extroverted introvert, meaning that I could have fun when going out with friends, but I would almost always pick staying at home on my own. Like most people I know, I loved reading, but I stuck to fantasy—specifically novels that included Greek mythology. I guess the only non-average thing I can add is that I enjoyed writing and drawing in my spare time. I lived in a very normal suburban house in Oakville, Ontario. In the case you don't know where that is (because most people don't) it's very close to Toronto. I lived there with both of my parents and the family cat, Sneakers, who only ever seemed to show up for food. If you haven't noticed so far I also tend to get lost in my thoughts and ramble.
The only thing that seemed to differentiate me from the rest of my classmates—and probably every student in the history of the world besides Harry Potter—is that I was not excited about the school year coming to an end. That and I'm attracted to both men and women and my parents weren't upset and didn't appear the least bit bothered by it. It was the first summer that I didn't have a job because University was going to be starting up soon. My parents surprisingly didn't want me to work so I could enjoy my summer before becoming an adult and trying to survive another four years in an educational institution. I thought I was going to be bored out of my mind with all of my friends working full time. I'd just graduated high school and had recently broken up with my girlfriend so there wasn't a lot to do at home besides shopping and I hate shopping.
I thought my summer was going to suck, but my parents surprised me with my dream trip to Greece! Of course it's not just a trip where I can enjoy myself. My parents aren't that nice, but I'm not complaining about it. My trip would consist of a summer length course that would count towards two of my first-year electives. That wasn't even the best part. It turns out my parents weren't completely naive when it came to my mythology hobby. The dozens of books on the subject that I'd left lying around the house helped and they enrolled me in a first-year mythology course. Upon successful completion, the course would give me six credits—a full year's class worth—and focuses mainly on Greek mythology, with bits of Roman mythology sprinkled in.
This course would allow me to travel through all of Greece while visiting all of the mythology-related locations I'd been dreaming of for years. The summer suddenly looked very bright even though I'd be setting across the world all alone. I had a feeling that the trip would change my life forever, especially after meeting my professor, Dr. Evantin, the mysterious handsome man who looked at me as if he's known me my entire life. I thought the trip would help me prepare for the real world, but man was I wrong. The real world is actually very different than what I was raised to believe. It's completely different from what most of the world believes. The real world shouldn't exist according to science. Dr. Evantin shouldn't exist. Heck, I technically shouldn't even exist.
My new life began the moment I decided to take the long way home from class. At first I thought my life would have remained the same if I hadn't, but I soon learned that nothing is what it seems and everything happens for a reason. That summer I learned about fate.
