Breakfast in Olympus wasn't as grand as Danika had imagined. For whatever reason, she thought there'd be a giant medieval looking feast filled with gold goblets, plates and cutlery. Instead, there was a room that resembled her high school cafeteria, minus the columns, and much more expensive.
"I didn't think you'd use regular appliances in Olympus," Danika whispered to Hermes, who chuckled at her naivety.
"We also don't drink ambrosia at all meals. It's kind of like drinking champagne to celebrate a special occasion. Or a little something special that you can add in your drinks or food to enhance the flavour."
Sounds like MSG, Danika thought as she observed the few gods and goddesses that were in the room. Aphrodite and Eros sat at a table and appeared to be gushing over some sort of gossip magazine. Persephone and Hades were rinsing their dishes before sticking them in the dishwasher. Most of the others were eating. This all seems very normal.
"Danika," Apollo's voice sounded from behind her.
"Good morning," she smiled, trying to act like she wasn't still fangirling at the fact that she was about to eat breakfast in Olympus. And that I had non family-friendly dreams of him last night.
"How was your sleep?" Apollo looked concerned.
Danika laughed. "Better than it's been since I was in the womb. That bed is magical. I don't think I can ever sleep anywhere else again."
Apollo looked relieved."Well that's good! I was worried you'd be too overwhelmed to sleep. At least you can look forward to sleeping comfortably more often."
"So what do you want to eat?" Hermes cut in.
Apollo looked surprised and then a bit guilty as if he didn't even notice him standing there.
"Do you eat pancakes up here? I've been craving them since I had them at our first hotel."
Apollo's face lit up. "Of course! I'm actually pretty decent at making them so I'll get started. Care to help out?"
Danika nodded enthusiastically. She said bye to Hermes and accepted Apollo's outstretched arm before walking toward the kitchen. Her mother would have a heart attack if she saw the palace kitchen. It was absolutely stunning and crafted from impeccable marble. The appliances were all top of the line, there was tons of counter space, and the fridge looked like it belonged in a celebrity chef's mansion.
"How often do you guys need to go grocery shopping? You must run out of food every few hours with all of these gods here," she asked.
Apollo chuckled. "The fridge mostly restocks itself thanks to Demeter, but everything else is purchased by minor gods and nymphs on a daily basis. They use grocery delivery and just transport it back here. It's part of the perks of being a god I guess," he shrugged.
Mom would definitely flip out. Danika used the time to ask Apollo about himself. She learned that his favourite colour was blue and that he loved dogs, which was a huge plus for her. They spoke about his relationships with the other gods and learned that Hermes was his best friend, despite their one cow issue.
"You'll be learning about that one soon in class," Apollo explained, confusing Danika even further.
Danika also found out that he absolutely despised current pop music. He went on about how popular musical artists now relied on editing software to sound good and cursed at the new microphones and referred to them as, "photoshopping your voice." Danika kept in mind that she needed to bring him out to karaoke so she could hear him sing considering he was also the god of music.
