Chapter 62

"Ladies, this is way too much for me to take in," Louie said as he continued to pace back and forth in the hallway. He looked at the two women with wide eyes. "Like I said, everything needs to be confirmed," July replied. "Seriously, you can't just tell me I have a kid na nag-aagaw buhay ngayon and then just say it has to be confirmed. You're playing with my heart now, which by the way is my second one already. So 'wag nyo naman ako biglain ng ganito baka atakihin ako sa puso," he pleaded. "I'm sorry, Louie," July said to him genuinely. She really did feel sorry for him. "And if everything we think is true, then yung babae kanina sa kabilang hospital room, the one with the bandages in her eyes, that's your sister," May informed him. "Come on. Kasasabi ko lang eh. This is way too much. I have to go," Louie said. Then he started walking away. "Louie!" May called out to him. July held May's arm. "Just let him be. He's just like Page. Give him time. He'll come through."

"God, Louie. Do you have any idea how long I've been trying to reach you??" A woman said to him over the phone. "I'm sorry, Eunice, okay? I was involved in a wreck--," Louie was explaining when Eunice, his fiancé immediately reacted. "What?? Are you okay?? Are you in the hospital right now? Which hospital? I'm going there," Eunice said anxiously. "No, I'm fine. Pero madaming casualties. Madaming injuries. And I'm trying to help out here, it's so chaotic," Louie explained. He rubbed his face with one hand. Then he sighed heavily. "Are you sure you're okay? What about the car?" Eunice asked. Louie shook his head in frustration. "Are you serious right now? Naisip mo pa talaga yung kotse? Unbelievable," he said. "Ano ba?! I'm just asking kung okay lang yung kotse because if not, I'll come and pick you up. My God, Louie. Do you really think I'm that selfish?" Eunice cried out. "Pwede ba, Eunice? Tigil-tigilan mo muna ako. Nakaka-irita. I've had to deal with so much today. You have no idea what I've seen and gone through, so I suggest you just keep to yourself and leave me alone," Louie snapped. Eunice was surprised by her fiancé's sudden and unusually aggressive tone. "Fine, you know what, dahil sa mga nangyari sayo today, I'll let all of that go and just be thankful that nothing bad happened to you," she said to him. "Do you need me to come pick you up?" She asked. "No. I'm going to help out a bit more. Then I'll come home," he replied. "Okay, but did you at least call mom and dad to let them know what happened to you?" She asked. "No. Don't tell them. I'll be the one to let them know," he replied. "Okay," she said. "Okay," he answered. "I love you," she added, but Louie already ended the call.

"You go first," May said. "No, you go first," July insisted. "Bakit ako??" May asked. "I don't know if I'm ready to see just how severe Juney's injuries are," July confessed. "At ako kaya ko? You're the strong one, kung weak ang strong ngayon, pano naman yung weak?? Weaker is weakest right now," May said. "Ewan ko sayo," July hissed. Then she took a step towards June's room. The curtain was pulled all the way, so they couldn't see their friend. A nurse immediately greeted them. "Hello po," she said to them. "Hi, we're June Torres' best friends. How is she?" July asked the nurse nervously. "Natutulog pa po sya ngayon. Mahigpit po nyang pinagbabawal ang mag-release ng any information po at the moment unless nakalagay po pangalan nyo sa file, but I will check po kung sino po pwede namin pagbigyan," the nurse answered. "I see. I'm pretty sure andun yung pangalan namin, unless she changed it when she adopted Page, her daughter. You can double check. My name's July and this is May," July said to her. "Okay po. Pakita na lang po ng I.D. so I can check po ng maayos," the nurse said. After checking their identifications, the nurse finally excused herself. May and July stood by the door. "What are you thinking of?" May asked. "June and Page. My gosh, why is this happening to them right now? They could never catch a break," July said, feeling defeated. "I know," May said quietly. Just then, a voice from inside the room started calling out for the nurse. "Nurse," she said weakly. "Juney," the two women said at the same time. July immediately wanted to enter the room, but May stopped her. "We're not allowed pa," May reminded her. "To hell with not being allowed. Pamilya tayo ni Juney, they can sue me," July said. Then she and May entered the room.
