When I got home from the camp, my mom decided to bombard me with questions.

"Was it fun benji? Did you make friends!!" She shrieked, throwing her arms around me and embracing me in a tight hug.

Hugs are her thing. And I'll only accept them from her. Well, and Jorge.

I smiled. I figured now, that I'm home , was the best time to tell her everything.

And I mean everything.

"Let me tell you all of it." I said.

Her eyes widened, and she smiled.
"Let me go get some chips." She said, knowing this was a serious matter, and that it could only be talked over with chips.

She returned to the living room with a bag of 'cheddar ruffles' and we sat on the couch and took a handful each.

"So," I said, through munching, which usually my mom would get on to me for, but she was munching too," I had tons of fun. I joined the sports team there-"

"What sport?" She asked, swallowing her chips.

"Soccer." I said. She nodded.

"Didn't take you for a soccer man but, to each their own." She said. I smiled.

"Anyway, I made tons of friends. There's Maliki, who was a good soccer friend. There's noen and cayman, who are both on the soccer team as well, but I know them more as collective goofballs." I said.

She smiled.
"They seem nice."

"They are. There's xowie, my legit other half. There's Abby , who I did like at the beginning but we realized we better just stay friends." I said, kind of awkwardly.

She nodded.
"Okay," she said, edging me to go on.

"There's addy, caymans girlfriend. She's so sweet, also did I mention Abby is dating noen?" I said.

She shook her head.
"Oh," I said," well , Abby is dating noen. And there's Olivia, who's dating Maliki. She's super sweet, she's Jorge's best friend." I said, slightly gushing.

"Aww, sweet. Sounds like everyone had a summer romance. Did you?" She asked, eyeing me suspiciously.

"What?" I asked, biting the skin off of my lower lip.

"Oh, well I mean, you do have xowie, Jorge, and you left in the jumble who aren't paired. I just figured you know, maybe one of them..." she trailed off, raising her eyebrow.

My face went red.

"Yeah, okay. I guess that's fair." I laughed. She kept her stern , suspicious look.

Which is fair, the last thing that happened with me and relationships that she knows about, is when I got black out drunk, and woke up with this blonde chick in my bed.

My mom went upstairs and saw the girl, and she asked her if she was drinking, which she said she had.

I found out after my mom drove the girl home, the girl texted me and told me we didn't do anything, and that I was crying the whole time.

Embarrassing, yes. But she doesn't know that nothing happened. So maybe she's just making sure I'm not a man whore? Which, to be fair I totally was before. Well. Kinda.

"I guess I kinda had a summer romance." I said, scratching the back of my neck, as I was now extremely nervous.

"Oh." She said. "And with whom?" She asked, tucking her lips into her mouth.

I exhaled.
"Uhm. Jorge. My boyfriend jorge." I said, and instinctively closed my eyes.

Not that I was afraid she was going to hit me, but just scared of the impact of my statement.

"Oh, oh benji." She said, and pulled me close to her.

She hugged me, and rocked us back and fourth.

"Ohhh my little benji-bear. I love you, I love love love you." She said, kissing my head.

I wasn't entirely enjoying this, but it was nice having someone love you physically for exclaiming who you are, when the whole time you've been hiding from it.

So , I sunk into it, wrapping my arms around her too.

"I have to meet him! Where does he live?" She exclaimed, shaking me slightly.

"Mom." I said, and she took her hands off of me, so she would stop shaking me along with her excitement.

"I'm sorry! I'm just so excited!" She said, jumping off the couch.

"Where does he live?" She asked again.

"He lives by the summer camp. He goes to school there." I said.

She went silent, and mumbled an "oh".

I got up off the couch.
"Look, I know it's far away, I do. And maybe I'm dumb for thinking long distance will work when we're two hours away. But in retro spect, it's only two hours. Right? And we can FaceTime each other every day mom." I said, defending myself.

"No , I know. And you make any decision you want to make. I'm just saying, you know, I can't drive you there and back, and then come get you, and then back. You'll have to find your own ride if you think you will want to go over there." She said.

I nodded. I knew she would say that, but it still hurt knowing I was right.

"I know mom. But , hey, I'm 17 anyway, maybe I can work towards getting my license?" I suggested.

"Oh my god you love him!" She shouted, wrapping her arms around her shoulders, hugging herself.

"Mom!" I said, still slightly embarrassed.

"I'm sorry ! You've just always been afraid of driving. It's cute you want to learn just to see him. I'll see what I can do on that. Now , go get unpacked." She said, and ruffled my hair.

I complied, trailing my suit case up the stairs with me to my room.

God this will take awhile.
