Jorge's pov

Syd and I were sat in plastic seats against the wall of the front office.

We were awaiting our punishment, which was horse shit, in my opinion.

Punish me? Me? Huh, okay.

"Hey," syd whispered to me, trying not to alert the lady at the front counter just a few feet ahead of us.

"Hm." I hummed, turning my head to look at him.

"Are you okay? You know, with everything that happened back there?" He asked, straightening his septum peircing.

I nodded.
"I'm fine, I just don't like it when people use slurs that aren't derogatory to them." I said plainly, picking the skin around the buds of my nails.

"Yeah, I get it. But, are you physically okay? Max pushed you into desks, it looked like it hurt." He said, reminding me of the pain in my lower back.

Shit. I was so angry with what that max bitch said, I forgot about the pain.

"Damnit." I said, higher than the whisper we were speaking at.

"Language." The lady piped, from behind her desk and her hideous red glasses.

I rolled my eyes.
"Uh huh." I said.

She threw a dirty look, then continued to type on the computer in front of her.

"I'm fine, though I might have bruises. How are you? You got literally thrown to the ground." I said, frowning. He must feel more pain than I do, mine was minor.

He nodded.
"I'm good. It takes a lot to shake up syd." He smiled, revealing the gap in his teeth. It was charming, it fit him well.

"Boys." A lady spoke, coming from around the corner to our right.

She had on a black button- up shirt, khaki pants, and black slip-ons with a bow. Definitely a staff member, Jesus. Do these people just , like, not have taste?

We both stood up, walking over to her. She turned her back, walking down the hall and opening a door to a room.

It was kinda fucking weird. Why do we have to wait in a space for this person to deal with our problems? Who was she? The fucking queen?

We sat down in the chairs in her office. They were way less comfortable than the ones in the front office, but hopefully it wouldn't matter, and we wouldn't be here for long.

The door clicked behind her, and she plopped down her her rolling chair.

Bet it's more comfy than these.

"Boys, I heard you both got into a physical altercation?" She spoke, her lips curling up at the sides, like a dried pink worm. Disgusting.

Syd nodded, so I did too.

"Okay, could one of you describe the situation to me, truthfully, please?" She spoke, tilting her head to the side towards me, as if gesturing me to speak. She wanted to seem as if we had a choice on who explained, but in reality we didn't.

I looked at syd, and he stared back at me, raising his brows.

I huffed, sitting up more in my chair.

"I was in my first period class, the teacher failed to explain what we were to do. I looked around for help, decided the person who's desk was near mine was the best person to ask. Instead of helping, said student, threw slurs at me based on the way I dressed." I spoke, not stuttering over a single word.

She nodded.
"And what else." She asked, as if she knew the story. Like she was just asking me or clarify. To see if I would lie, and immediately deem max, whoever the fuck he is, innocent.

I smiled , a petty smile. Those smiles that stretch into thin faded lines, with a slight tilt to the head.

"So," I spoke, continuing," I stood up for myself. I asked him what he said, he repeated the word. I told him to never ever say that to me, he repeated the word again, asking me to get away from him, mind you , I was not in his personal space. Sure, I was loud, and could've handled it better, but I was upset. I edged him on, he pushed me onto the desk, leaving my back in pain. Syd, here, tried to hold him back, as it looked like he was about to throw a punch at me, but the boy threw syd to the ground. That's all." I said.

She was silent, clicking her black pen a few times, and then lying it on the table beside her wrist.

"What teacher was this, the one who wouldn't give instructions properly?" She asked.

I shrugged, syd quickly spoke up.
"Mr. graves." He said.

She nodded, clicking her pen again, and writing on a sticky note.

"Okay, that's all I needed. You boys may wait for the bell, and go to your next class period." She said.

We nodded, getting up form the ungodly chairs, and leaving the room.

"I can't believe that went down that easy." Syd said, trailing his neon green fingers across the wall.

"Is it usually not?" I laughed. Syd shook his head.

"Nope. But, you've seemed to have cracked her." He said, as we walked out of the office completely, leaving us in the commons.

And there, we saw benji. And ben. And the black haired boy from earlier.

Ben was, unfortunately, laying his head on benjis shoulder.

It reminded me of summer camp, when I would lay my soft curls on his warm tan skin, while we lied out in the sun.

But it wasn't me.

And it was my fault.

"Woah, that's weird. Benjis totally staring at.." syd said, trailing off only to notice, I too, was starring at benji.

"... you." He finished.

Max, seemingly out of nowhere, came beside us, bumping my shoulder purposely, and entering the office.

Benji looked confused, Ben looked upset, and the black haired boy looked like he knew something. Something wrong, something the lines were connecting through.

But i, actually, along with syd

Was totally, and utterly

Clueless

So we walked out of the commons, and into the hallway.
