Everything was black.
Was I dead?
Or am I alive?
The last thing that happened was...
David drove into some walkers, but there were too many.
I quickly jolted awake.
I looked around in a panic as I unbuckled myself from the seat.
Gabe was beside me, shouting something I couldn't make out.
"Gabe..." I muttered tiredly, reaching out a hand. I reached for his shoulder with a pounding headache.
But instead got chomped on.
I quickly brought my hand back, oblivious to what happened since I've only woken up.
"Get away from her!" Gabe screamed as I heard a walker being knocked out.
My eyes widened.
Was I... No, I wasn't. There was no way. I couldn't be... Not after all these years. Not after potentially losing Javi to a stupid car accident.
I looked down, blinking to get my vision back.
Everything went from blurry to clear, and I could suddenly see now.
My hand. Teeth marks. Blood seeped out from the wound, tracing down my arm.
I wanted to scream. But I couldn't.
I was bitten.
×××
As much as I wanted to sit and stare at my bite until I turned, I had to get Gabe out of here.
I grabbed his shoulder, on point this time and not in some walker jaw.
"Come on, let's go.." I said, still loopy from the crash. Gabe nodded, following behind my lead.
I stopped as I came face to face with a walker outside the window.
"Nevermind." I pushed Gabe away from the window, reaching into my pocket to receive my weapon.
But nothing. I frowned.
"Oh, I have your knife." Gabe exclaimed. I let out a sigh, my bitten hand shaking. I quickly hid my hand from Gabe with the jacket sleeve.
"Okay. Gabe, listen. You need to get out of here. Get Javi." I explained. "You know where he is, right?" Gabe was silent for a few seconds.
"Yeah." He replied. I shut my eyes before speaking again. He had to leave me.
"You have to leave me." I whispered, trying not to let any tears escape. The last thing I needed was a crying session with a kid who doesn't have a clue about what's going on.
Gabe shook his head in confusion."Wh- what? Why?" He sat up straight, looking up at me and maintaining eye contact. I smirked.
"Oh, Gabe. Always making things hard for me." I muttered, pulling him into a hug. I shut my eyes, letting a tear escape. Jesus, this sucked.
"Wait, what's going on?!" He grabbed onto my arm. I have to tell him.
God, Gabe. I'm so sorry.
"Gabe, I'm... I'm bitten." I exclaimed. I looked down. "You probably know from seeing that walker bite me but... God. I'm so sorry." I sighed.
Gabe's face went blank and pale as a ghost.
He let out a small laugh.
"You're kidding. It's the stupid lying game again!" He laughed. I kept looking down. The stupid lying game. The game from years ago.
Jesus, that stupid game. To get Gabe away from me by telling him that it's snowing outside, and whoever falls for the lies loses."No, Gabe. It's not." I replied.
A sudden knock came from the window. I jumped, turning around.
Javi.
Gabe reached over and opened the door, jumping and squeezing Javi into a hug.
He started to cry. Sobbing, almost.
Javi looked down at him in surprise and confusion, eventually looking at me.
"Y/n... Y/n is... She's..." Gabe spit out during his crying fit. Javi suddenly started panicking. I could see the panicked expression take over his face as he focused on me.
"What? What's wrong?" He asked, grabbing Gabe by the shoulders and prying him away.
He looked down into his face, waiting for an answer. Gabe suddenly calmed down.
"She's-"
"I'm bitten." I said sternly, trying to keep a straight face.
Everything got quiet. I spotted Clementine, who was standing behind Javi, covering her mouth with her hand in shock.
Javi shook his head in disbelief.
"No. No, you aren't." He lightly pushed Gabe out of the way, making his way over to me.
"Yes, I am, Javi." I lifted my hand up, uncovering it from under my sleeve.
It was an ugly shade of purple and red. It outlined my veins. It looked like it was straight out of a horror movie.
Suddenly, a wave of pain pulsed through my hand. I clenched my teeth, trying not to cause more of a scene.
But something else caught Javi's attention. He looked behind me, at the driver's seat.
"David-" he gasped. I turned around to see David's body slumped over the seat, part of his brain exposed.
"I- I tried to stop him..." Gabe exclaimed. I shook my head, looking away from the scene.
Clementine stepped forwards."Wait, can we just... Cut off your hand? To stop the infection from spreading?" She suggested. My eyes widened.
"Umm... No. We're not doing that." I said, letting out a nervous laugh. Javi looked down at me, a serious look plastered on his face.
"Y/n." He got down to my level, since I was still sitting in the car. He was silent for a moment before speaking. "I don't want to lose you." Javi grabbed my hand, holding it.
A tear rolled down my cheek again, as I looked at my hand.
I don't know. I don't want to lose my left hand, but I don't want to die.
I looked up at Javi, who was still looking at me.
No hand, or death. Death, or no hand.
Death?
Or no hand?
It's stupid to think this hard about dying or losing a body part. But once you're in that situation, it really makes you think.
I wish I could sleep on it.
But I didn't have time.
God, life sucks.
