The doorbell rang. I quickly walked over, looking out the peephole. There stood my mom, dad and Chase. I could hear him talking about Javi to my parents in excitement. My parents just nodded and waited. I opened the door.
"Hi Mom! Hi Dad!" I greeted. Chase pushed past everyone, looking around the apartment.
"Where's Javi?" He asked. I rolled my eyes, laughing.
"He's coming later. Calm down." I replied Chase sighed impatiently and fell back into the couch, crossing his arms. I grabbed the TV remote and tossed it over to him. "Here. Watch whatever you want." Chase grabbed the remote and turned on Disco Broccoli. He was way too old for that show.
"So... How long until he gets here?" Mom asked.
"I called him like 20 minutes ago. I think he should be here soon." I said. She nodded.
"How is he?" Dad asked.
"He's... Good?" I replied. Well, at least I think so. "Guys, just sit down and behave. Don't act like animals." I said.
"Excuse me, we don't act like animals!" Mom scoffed. Dad laughed.
"... Okay, if you say so." He chuckled. I furrowed my brows as the doorbell rang again.
"And here he is!" I whispered. I quickly ran over and looked out the peephole. Javi was outside fumbling with a... Bat?
I opened the door, looking at him in confusion. He stumbled in, smiling.
"Hey! Are your parents... Here?" He asked. I nodded. He looked over at the kitchen. Mom and dad smiled. Mom waved.
"Javi!!" Chase called out. He ran over, crashing into him with a hug.
"... Woah." Javi chuckled.
"I'm so sorry!" I apologized. I prayed Chase off of Javi.
"No, it's fine. I actually brought one of the bats I played with as a gift." He replied. Chase's eyes widened.
"For me?!" He asked. Javi nodded, handing the bat over.
"Alright, sit down at the couch." I nudged Chase. He slowly walked towards the living room, examining the bat. Javi sighed.
"Sorry if I was late. I tried getting here early." He said.
"No, you were right in time." I replied. "Please, take a seat." I motioned towards a seat. My parents watched as he sat down in suspicion. Javi seemed to notice.
"Oh. Sorry." He muttered, adjusting the way he sat. I shook my head.
"No, ignore them. They're weird." I laughed. Mom looked at me in disbelief.
"Oh. Javi. So... Where do you work?" She asked. I sighed. There was a short pause.
"Well, I sometimes play baseball. I bet you know that, though." He laughed. My parents stayed quiet. "... But yeah. Kind off of work right now, so..." He added.
"The point is, it doesn't matter." I said. "Just ask normal questions?" I looked at my parents. Dad nodded.
"Okay. Your family, Javi. Tell me about them." He asked.
"Well, I have a brother. You know, a normal family. A nice, a nephew." He replied. Dad's eyes widened.
"Hm. So, where are you from, Javi?"

I took a deep breath in as we leaned against the edge of the roof. It felt like every worry in the world was gone, but it wasn't. I cringed at the memory of my parents meeting Javi for the first time. Javi looked over.
"What's wrong?" He asked. I smiled.
"Nothing." I replied. I quickly changed my expression.
"No, I know you. What's up?" He laughed. I looked down.
"I'm thinking about the first time you met my parents." I replied. "It was... Soo bad." I added. He nodded.
"Did they like me?" He asked. I paused.
"I'm pretty sure they did. If they didn't then I'm guessing Chase would've talked them into liking you-"
"Do you think they would've accepted my blessing to marry you?" I froze. My heart started to beat fast.
"What?" I asked. "Sorry, i-"
"I almost... Proposed to you one time. The day I got the call that my dad was dying." He replied. I looked up at him. "I just couldn't do it." He said. I sighed. Okay, all that love stuff behind. Let's change the subject.
"What was the craziest thing you've seen while out there?" I asked. Javi cleared his throat.
"Well, let's see..." He thought. Javi's face lit up as he thought of one. "There were a lot of crazy things but... A girl making a tree fall over in front of the vehicle I was riding in tops it." He replied.
"Wait... A girl or a woman?" I asked in disbelief.
"A girl. Around Gabe's age." He laughed. "Yeah, she turned out really nice. Her name was Clementine." My heart stopped. "You probably know her. She said she was part of this whole thing." I nodded.
"Clementine. Yeah, I know her." I replied. I frowned. "She had this little boy with her. AJ. David kicked her out after she tried to help him." I continued. Javi furrowed his brows.
"No way..." He muttered.
"Yes way." I said. "I had to care for him. I helped him say his first words too." I smiled at the thought. I taught him how to say 'Clem'. I didn't want to teach him 'mom' or 'dad' because I knew that he didn't have one.
"... Is he okay?" He asked. I looked down at Richmond below.
"Don't know what happened with him." I replied quietly. I tried to keep quiet about him as possible. I felt like a piece of me went missing after he was taken away, and I know Clementine felt that way too.
"You can tell me." Javi said, placing his hand on mine. "I'm here."
I sighed before starting.
