It was nightfall and all of the cousins were up playing a good old-fashioned game of Uno. Kenny threw a card down.
"You can't put that down!" Stacey said.
"It's a 6." He said in confusion.
Chris chuckled, "Definitely a 9 bro."
Kenny scowled, "You're only agreeing so you can get some tonight."
"Gotta do what you gotta do." Chris said with a shrug.
Stacey pushed him, "Hush. Kenny, don't hate because you're losing."
"Whatever. Just for that, draw 4. Who's the loser now?" He said in victory as Stacey started drawing.
"MOM!" Kaila screamed making them jump. She took off towards the foyer prompting them all to leave their game and follow.
"Hey!" Toni said hugging her.
Kaila smiled, "You made it."
"Yeah. I'm sorry I almost missed-"
"I don't care, I'm just happy you're here now."
"Toni!" Laz said as he, Caresha, and Toni engaged in a group hug.
"Hey everyone. Laz, Caresha, congratulations."
"Thanks girl." Caresha said moving over to let Stacey through.
"Stacey, I love this hair." Toni said hugging her too.
"Thank you."
"Chris, don't you owe me money?" She asked hi-fiving him.
He sighed, "You're not going to let that bet go, are you?"
"No."
Toni stopped seeing a vaguely familiar face but she couldn't place it, "And you are?"
"Ginger. I'm a friend of Kenny's." Ginger said holding her hand out for Toni to shake.
Toni looked at her hand, "Hmm."
"Mom, lets go see Chance." Kaila said dragging her away.
"I'll be back." Toni said to the cousins
They made it upstairs and walked into Kenny's room.
"Mom, hey." Chance said closing his book as he sat up on the couch in Kenny's room.
"Hey." She said.
"Umm, if you wanna sleep in here, I can-"
"No, you're good. I'll probably spend half the trip in the guest house anyway, might as well sleep there." She said awkwardly as Kenny silently entered the room.
"Okay." Chance said.
The tension was thick in the room as an awkward silence loomed over them.
"I should go now. Goodnight you two." She said kissing Kaila's forehead.
"Wait, I'm coming with you tonight." Kaila said grabbing her bags.
