"Dawn, we just met Chance last week. She didn't even tell me I had a son. We've been married for almost 20 years and she didn't say a word. How could she do that?" Kenny explained.Dawn let out a breath, "Maybe she had good reason." She suggested.
"What could that be? I missed out on 24 years. Nothing can fix that."
"So what now?"
"I'm done." He said getting up to unpack his suitcase.
Dawn frowned, "That easily?"
"She's been hiding things from me Dawn. She's always lying about where she's going. She's always picking fights when I want to bring Kaila here. My parents have been nothing but good to her. She's always making me feel guilty because her Aunt was my nanny. I can't take it anymore." He complained.
"Call her." She said tossing his phone to him.
"No."
"Then I will."
He shrugged, "Fine. She's not coming."
<<<<<The next day>>>>>
Toni
I sat on the bathroom floor trying to clear my head. Flashbacks played in my head of the drama from all those years ago.
•••
"Well?" Toni said as her aunt came out of Lucinda's office.Jeanie sighed, "She's not going to give us the money for an abortion."
"But you said-"
"I know, but she made another offer. A quarter of a million of you have it."
Toni frowned, "What? I can't-"
"Listen to me. You'll go to St. Mary's and stay there til the baby is born. Then you get the money and go off to college."
"With a baby I don't want on my hip?"
"If its a girl, Lucinda will take her and raise her as her own. No one will know a thing."
"And if it's not?" Toni asked.
Jeanie shook her head, "I'm not sure. There's always adoption. Look, you'll be okay. I already figured out a way for us to stay in touch-"
"You already said yes? How could you do that?" She asked as her eyes watered.
"I'm trying to secure your future. I'm trying to make sure you don't end up like me; working for people like them." Jeanie said. She watched her niece sob before she made her look at her, "You're too young to understand right now. I know it hurts but it will pay off in the end."
•••I inhaled sharply dropping the razor blade onto the floor. The third cut started to bleed. I got up and grabbed a towel just as my phone started to ring.
"Hello?" I answered pressing the towel against my inner thigh.
"Hey girl."
