Levi’s POV

“Hey” came a quiet voice from the ground. I looked down from my high chair and saw a girl standing in the sand, holding her shoes. She was looking up at me squinting her green eyes. She looked familiar. When she coughed slightly and her small frame shook, and I recognized her from yesterday evening. I hadn’t been able to see her face properly but her petite frame gave it away.

I jumped down from my seat and landing softly in front of her.

“Hey, you came back” I said smiling at her.

She gave me a small smile, her lips tugging up at the corners slightly.

“Yeah. I came… uh… I came to thank you. I was in no shape to properly thank you yesterday evening, but that doesn’t mean that I’m not eternally grateful for what you did.” she said rubbing her arm nervously.

“Like I said yesterday, it’s what I’m here for” I said swiping some hair out of my eyes. “Did you get a good night’s sleep?” I asked her.

The wind was blowing stronger and her hair began blowing back slightly. She was pretty, no doubt.

“Yeah” she said looking down. The lie was evident in her voice. I knew what it was like not being able to sleep after something like yesterday.

“It get’s easier after a couple of days. Try keeping a small light on at night and focus on you’re breathing when you close you’re eyes. It keeps the memories away,” I said. Her eyes snapped up to mine before she gave me slow nod. She looked like she wanted to say something else, unsure whether to voice her thoughts or not. I took the time to properly look at the young woman in front me. Her small frame only reached my chin, her auburn curls falling down to her slim waist. Her green eyes were only dimly shimmering behind her black glasses. They weren’t the normal vibrant eyes like everyone else; instead they held an emotion that looked a lot like pain.

Her eyebrows creased and small wrinkle appeared on the bridge of her nose. I had to suppress a smile at her cute facial expression.

She seemed to have decided against saying anything else and instead tugged at her shoelaces.

“Thank you again,” she said, and even though she only said three words I heard the sincerity in them.

“No problem” I said smiling at her again before she turned around and slowly headed back up the beach. When she had rounded the corner, now covered by reeds I turned around and climbed back up the high chair, taking a seat next to Jay.

“Who was that?” he asked a mischievous glint in his eyes. Jay was a womanizer and every girl’s heartthrob at the beach.

“Somebody I helped yesterday evening” I said trying to dismiss the topic.

“Which means you saved her pretty butt out of the ocean am I right or am I right?” he asked punching my shoulder, “I swear Levi you’re selflessness makes me want to puke sometimes”
