Levi’s POV

If that was her first kiss then my move of asked her to be my girlfriend was way too early. She sat between my legs, running her long slender fingers over the sand i thought about how lonely her life must have been after the accident. She must have been fourteen when it happened. No one should ever have to go though the pain of losing someone, but definitely not a fourteen year old girl.
“Sometime i try to forget him completely, act like he never existed” she said into the darkness.

“I think forgetting him is not the answer. I think you have to embrace all the wonderful memories you had and keep them in your heart. It’s going to take a lot of time but you’re going manage- I’m sure. I didn’t know Pete but i’m almost certain that he wouldn’t want you to be sad. I think he would tell you to smile that beautiful smile of yours and start living your life.” i said slowly, choosing my words carefully.

She ducked her head and seconds later i felt something wet drip onto my arm. I hugged her to my chest and rubbed her arms trying to comfort her.

“You know” she said in a shaky voice, “I’ve never told anyone anything about the accident. None of my friends know, my parents blatantly ignore me as soon i mention it, and my extended family all give me sad smiled before turning away. You’re the first who actually stuck around to hear me out.”

“It’s the least i can do. You deserve to be happy just like everyone else”

A quiet sob wracked through her body as she shook slightly in my arms.

“Thank you” she said quietly resting her head against my arm and staring out across the ocean, blowing out a large breath.

I kissed her exposed neck and rested my chin on her shoulder.

I was quiet for a long time before a large smile spread across my lips as an idea occurred to me.

“How would you feel about meeting my family?” I asked her looking at her.

She turned her head to face me and thought about it for a second, before slowly nodding her head.

“That would be really nice” she said a subtle smile on her lips.

“They’re going to love you. We’re a lot though, and very loud” I said laughing softly at the many memories of my loud family.

“That’s alright” she said gently.

“Are you free this weekend?”

“Yup” she said popping the p.

I smiled at the thought of her meeting my family. It seemed like something she had clearly missed out on. I could vividly imagine my mom’s loving smile when sees Dakota.

“I’ll pick you up around eleven then on Saturday” i said. She nodded her head threading our fingers together. She ran her fingertips across the faded scars on my palms.
“What happened?”

“It was last summer. I had friend from school here and we were swimming down the coast when we saw a group of boulders. One of them suggested we climb them and relax in the sun. I saw too late that they were covered in shells, and was washed up onto the boulder, cutting my skin on several places.” is said chuckling at how idiotic I must have looked, flopping up and down on the shell covered boulder.

“Needless to say, i was bleeding like crazy and my friends washed up next to me in a similar state. We spent a good fifteen minutes trying to get each other down without loosing all our skin. That’s where the scars come from.

She laughed gently before bringing my hand up and kissing each one of the white small scars.

She snuggled back against me and sighed.
