Today I wore a black ribbon
To show what I had been through
I locked eyes with a beautiful girl
Wearing a black ribbon she nodded and whispered "It's true"We walked together out of the lunchroom
She ignored her friends asking her what she was doing
I asked if she had hidden scars, or maybe knew a girl named Ana
She said she knew Ana as she nibbled a bar, slowly chewingWalking through the hallway I got her to give me a real smile
She said she finally didn't feel so alone
She asked me about my silver paintbrush
I told her it was hidden in my desk drawer at homeA boy walked by in the other direction
He was new at our school this year
I remembered seeing him drawing the other day
He drew a skinny boy looking at the mirror with a single tearHe wore a black ribbon tight around his wrist
He held the ends of it tight in a clenched fistI talked to him, and I talked to her
We all made some new friends
We might have to move or leave
But our friendship will never meet an endI have some friends now, even though our group is pretty small
I guess I'm not so alone after allYeah so I know, I was gonna post this for y'all long ago. Oops. Oh well. But I just fixed it up a bit and finished it right, so I figured I'd let y'all have a new poem. Y'all deserve it for bringing me up to the top three in poetry for a few days straight. Love y'all, thanks so much!
