Amy's POV
It was weird how she couldn't take Jake out of her mind. Maybe it was because he had been acting remarkably different that day, but, geez, she was in a date and Jake's brown eyes and curls were still in her head.
Also, maybe she was wrong about Teddy.
He was talking about the exact same stuff he had talked about in the last date, and she tried to smile but it was hard to focus with someone else in her head. All that felt wrong. Specially because Teddy had mentioned the color beige three times now, and she wouldn't stop thinking about Jake saying 'Had fun talking about the color beige?'
Maybe she had to do what felt right. As she had said—and she wasn't lying—, she needed to have more fun, she needed someone that made her laugh.
And she also felt like the right person was right in front of her. No literally, of course, in front of her was Teddy and he was definitely not the answer.
"Teddy?" she cut him in the middle of a jazz brunch story.
"Yes?"
"I--" she felt even more wrong. "Can you give me some time to make a script in my notes and then we can continue talking?"
Teddy smiled, but his eyebrows contracted.
"Why? What's going on?"
"Oh, god," Amy was about to shudder, she was suddenly nervous. "We need to break up."
Even if she felt bad when Teddy's smiled vanished, she was really relieved—and a bit proud of herself—that she could have said that without the help of a script. Damn, why was she such a nerd?
The words were running inside her head. We need to break up. Then Teddy's expression dropping, but he had been comprehensive. At least it had gone well, but she wasn't that sure now she had done the right thing. What if she regretted it? Now no one would want to go out with her. Maybe she had just wasted the only chance she'd ever have with someone in his life. Maybe the person she had broken up with Teddy for didn't even liked her back.
But little did she know that, not so far away, a man was dreaming with her.
Literally.
Jake's POV
He was having a dream.
Amy was in front of him, working in some paperwork. He couldn't stop looking at her. She looked more beautiful than ever, but she hadn't changed, she was the same, yet she conveyed Jake this feeling of calmness and hapiness he couldn't explain.
She caught him looking at her, and, although in real life he would've looked away, in his dream he just smiled at her.
"Hey, babe" said Amy. Jake's stomach churned. BABE?
"Hey, Ames," he responded. He had never called her 'Ames' before.
"What's going on?" she smiled so warmly Jake's stomach churned again, his heart melted and he fell in love with her like ten times more.
"Nothing," he said, grinning widely. "Just admiring my beautiful girlfriend."
Amy shook her head, smirking.
"How was I so lucky I had the chance to be with someone like you?" she said, leaving paperwork. That had to be a big deal for Amy to stop working.
"You're amazing, have I told you before?" said Jake.
"I love you."
"I love you too."
Jake woke up with a start. He was covered in cold sweat, and found himself smiling. It had been just a dream, but he could still feel his heart warming because of that lovely smile Amy had given him.
He turned, groaning, to see his clock. He had to be at work within four hours, he still had time to sleep. But it seemed impossible, Amy's smile wouldn't let him shut his eyes again. He spent those four hours thinking about her, although he was sad it had been just a dream.
