Amy's POV
Terry and Charles were back with Jake's food five minutes later, but by that time Jake had already fallen asleep in the bench of the holding cell. However, Amy woke him up and he sketched a half-smile, he still looked miserable.
"We didn't know what he would like so we brought all of this," said Terry, lifting a plastic bag.
"No problemo," said Jake, standing up from the bench, "I'll just take it all."
He was about to take the bag out of Terry's hands when an officer stepped in the middle of Jake and the squad.
"Sergeant, you can't just give food to the detective, we—"
"What do we have to do to get in your head that this man has been kidnaped?" said Rosa, irritated. She snatched the plastic bag out of Terry's hands and showed her badge to the officer. "You know I'm a detective, right? Please open the holding cell and let me help my friend."
Amy's heart melted. It was cute seeing Rosa acting that way just for Jake.
The officer opened the holding cell, flinching, and Jake grabbed the plastic bag and sat back in the bench, next to Amy, looking like a kid getting a gift on his birthday.
"Shouldn't we take Jake and Amy to the hospital?" said Gina, her arms crossed.
"We have to get them out of here, they still don't know Jake was kidnaped," answered Rosa. "Apparently, they believe that stupid man, and the scene they found wasn't exactly favorable to Jake and Amy."
"Besides, why did this Sophia's body have Jake's fingerprints?" said Charles.
They all looked at Jake, who devoured like five powdery donuts at once.
"What?" he asked. Rosa snickered, but Jake looked scared, as if he thought he was in trouble. Amy just thought that was so adorable.
"Why did Sophia Perez's body have your fingerprints?" repeated Terry, his eyebrows lifted.
"Oh," Jake swallowed and left the plastic bag at his side. Suddenly, he didn't seem hungry anymore, but sad and exhausted again. Amy looked at the others, she didn't know what that was about. "Well... Sophia was the woman I was dating. She got me drunk and took me to the house where Teddy had me locked."
Amy, Gina, Charles and Rosa widened their eyes. That explained a lot.
"She told you to send that voice message?" Amy couldn't help asking.
"Amy," said Charles in a warning tone.
"Later," Rosa told her.
Jake shook his head, however, confused. "I don't know what you're talking about, I barely remember something at this point. But the thing is that Wells had left and she said she 'regretted' everything and she wanted to help. And she offered me some food because I was already starving. She gave me an orange soda, which by the way had sedative, but we noticed it too late, when Wells had already shot her in the shoulder."
Jake stopped and seemed to try not to hyperventilate.
"Then..." he continued, "everything is black."
Amy rubbed his arms, Jake just stayed silent after that and didn't even care of eating the rest of the bag. If anything, he looked more sick than before.
"Well, we should tell that to the detectives in the case," suggested Terry.
"Can't we just arrest him?" said Rosa angrily. "I mean, we know the truth."
"But we don't have proof," Amy hit her head softly against the cell.
"We're gonna get you both out of here," whispered Rosa, she looked so mad that the others glanced at her with some fright. "I promise."
Amy nodded.
She just hoped she could leave that place.
Later
"This is how detective Wells said it occured: Peralta and you had him locked in that house, starving and in pain. Then Sophia Perez tried to feed him but Peralta shot her and ended with her life, we have proof of that. Wells said that, days after that, he tried to escape and Peralta was going to help him too, but you were faster and hurt Wells again, and tied Peralta because he tried to betray you. Is that true?"
Amy couldn't believe her ears.
"That's not how it happened," she said calmly, trying not to lose her temper.
"How did it happen, then?" said detective Meyers.
"Detective Peralta was reported missing on tuesday," answered Amy, tapping on the table with her fingers. "He had been missing work since two days before, but we thought he was sick due to a voice message, we think Wells made him record it. Last night, he went to my apartment and got me unconscious. Next thing I knew was that I was in a basement, with detective Peralta, he was tied in a chair, asleep. Wells tried to tie me too, but he failed. He left and, since I was free, I attempted to get detective Peralta out of there, because he was in the same terrible conditions he is right now."
"Detective Peralta assures that it was Wells who killed Sophia Perez, but we found the body with Peralta's fingerprints all over it. We didn't find Wells's phone either, which it certainly suspicious, and he was hurt and you were not."
"But it was part of his plan!" said Amy, mad. "He set us up. I bet he left my hands free just so I would try and escape and then he would go to the basement, with your squad behind. He knew you were gonna misread the situation. Did he say anything before?"
"He said he had just gotten free," responded Meyers, "but that's none of your business. Make up a better lie."
"That's the true. Peralta was missing before, and, according to what you said, Wells ensured that Peralta left once with me, and that he and Sophia were alone in the basement when Peralta came back and shot her."
"He didn't show up at the Nine-nine, that's all," said Meyers, shrugging. "Listen, that all is clearly a lie, the evidence says Peralta killed that woman, and what we saw says that you were the kidnapers."
"But how come Peralta was the only one missing? Wells was supposed to be the kidnaped but they never reported him—"
"They did," cut Meyers. Amy lowered her shoulders. "Just as you said, Wells was also reported missing on tuesday."
"What about me? He also said I was the kidnapper yet I showed up at the precinct."
"You are also a detective," said Meyers, leaning on the table. "You know how this works, it wasn't difficult for you to erase your tracks."
"That's not what happened!"
"Sorry, detective. I'm afraid that if you don't find anything that proofs otherwise, you are going to jail for the kidnapping of detective Wells, and Peralta will be locked for murdering the lawyer Sophia Perez, I believe that's final."
Amy snorted and slammed the table. It all was so unfair.
"Any questions?"
She was about to shake her head, surrendered, when two people stormed into the room. Rosa and Terry were beaming about something, but Amy was confused.
"Stop it," said Rosa, taking a phone out of her leather jacket. "Amy, you are not going to jail, like I promised."
"What is this about?" yelled Meyers.
"We have evidence."
