(Third Person) Amy's POV
She was feeling terrible, distant of everyone, even if at that same moment she was talking with two of her co-workers. She was telling Jake and Rosa about the break-up, Rosa interested but calmed, and Jake a bit intense. Like, he looked as if he hadn't get enough sleep and was now trying to keep himself distracted with Amy's story.
Amy thought he would tease her about needing a script for a break-up, but he just nodded with everything she said, or sighed with sadness.
"But I just couldn't do it anymore, you know? It just felt wrong," Amy said, still with that feeling pressing her chest.
"Don't worry about it," said Rosa, who, to Amy's surprise, was being actually very supportive. "He's super boring, you deserve someone better."
"Yeah," agreed Jake, smiling weakily, "you deserve someone way better. Someone maybe funnier than that guy, and much better and that actually knows how to have fun, not just talk about pilsners, maybe someone that you've known for a long time?"
Amy and Rosa exchanged confused looks.
"Wow, your Charles is showing, Jacob," said Rosa, frowning.
Jake chuckled nervously and got to his feet.
"Yeah, you know what? I just reminded I have a lot of paperwork to do, stay classy," he said in a rush, sniffing, and got out of the break room quickly.
Rosa snickered suspiciously, as if she knew why he had acted like that. Amy narrowed her eyes. She had been watching Rosa, Jake and Charles for a few days, and they all seemed to be hiding something. The time she had talked to Jake about her date, when he had run to the bathroom looking pale, Charles and Rosa looked at each other and started mouthing something.
But they forgot about one thing: Amy could read lips. They had said something about him being better now but then about Jake figuring something out by himself. They knew something and wouldn't tell Amy.
"Ok," she slammed the table softly. Rosa looked as if she wasn't expecting that, "something's up with him and you will tell me what it is."
"What are you talking about?" said Rosa, faking confussion.
"You guys are hiding something," said Amy, her eyes narrowed. "Why won't you tell me? Is it something bad?"
"Nothing like that," replied Rosa, and then sighed. "Look, I wanted Jake to figure this out himself, but... he likes you. And, of course, the fact that you've been dating Teddy makes him angry, but that's just it. He told me he's grossed out by himself because he hates jealousy, but he can't help it."
Amy stayed in silence for a moment.
"Oh..." she said quietly, but then she shook her head, and smiled. "Nice try, Diaz. Tell me the truth."
"I'm not lying," retorted Rosa firmly. "You can ask him yourself."
"I'm not gonna do that!"
"Good, cause you're not even supposed to know," said Rosa. "But, hey, don't make anything awkward between you guys. I'll help him, he knows that you have the right to go out with anyone you want, so it's gonna be fine."
Amy nodded with a smile. Suddenly, everything felt right again. She looked at Jake from the break room, and saw he was leaving with Charles. The sheer look of him made her feel good with herself and her place on earth.
It was a good feeling.
Charles's POV
He saw Jake coming out of the break room, looking disgusted again. Charles was already missing Jake's dumb jokes about everything, or his Die Hard references, but they had been replaced by silent.
Charles walked to Jake's desk, noticing his look was lost in the break room, where Amy and Rosa were talking.
"Hey, Jakey," said Charles, startling Jake.
"Boyle," he cleared his throat, "didn't see you there."
Jake lowered his head and had started working already, when Charles was about to suggest a Die Hard marathon, but last time they had watched it, nothing had changed in Jake's attitude.
"Wanna go to a restaurant with me?" asked Charles, smiling.
"I'm not hungry," said Jake.
"Really? Because your stomach says otherwise," replied Charles, as Jake's stomach had just rumbled loudly.
"I don't feel like going out right now," said Jake, sighing. "I want to keep my head on work so I distract myself from all of this. I hate being like this but I... can't help it."
"Oh, you can help it," said Charles. "Let me take you to eat something and we can talk about this."
Jake glanced at the break room again, then at his paperwork and then looked back at Charles, with a small grin on his face now.
"Fine," he yielded, getting to his feet and grabbing his hoodie, "but it better not be one of those strange restaurants where you always take us."
"It won't be, I promise," said Charles, happy.
Jake's POV
The morning had pretty much sucked. First, Amy worried about not finding someone else that liked her, when he was right there. Didn't she notice it? It's not like he wanted her to know, that would make things awkward between them because she clearly didn't like him back.
But he hated that she felt like that. He wanted her to know how loved she was.
Right now he was trying to distract himself from all of that with Charles, but he didn't know anymore how to have fun. Ugh, no, that sounded like Teddy.
"Wow, Charles, you were right, this food is amazing," said Jake, unbuttoning his shirt.
"I told you," said Charles happily. "And it kept you distracted, didn't it?"
"Well..." Jake sighed once more. "Yeah, but it's just this moment, you know? We have to go back to the precinct when lunch time is over, and I bet she'll find someone else soon."
"Oh, Jake," said Charles, "I bet that person will be you."
Jake's expression yielded to a weak smile.
"Not even you believe that. Listen, she doesn't like me back, I already accepted it. I know you're just trying to help but if you keep saying that kind of things... I just want to forget it all."
"What is all, exactly?"
"I've..." Jake lowered his head, "...been having dreams. I know it sounds stupid, but in those dreams Amy and I are dating, and it just makes me feel dumb because I know it's never gonna happen."
Charles let out a laughter as if he had seen the funniest thing ever, and Jake looked at him confused but also sad.
"Sorry," Charles cleared his throat, "it's just that I think you two will end up together."
Jake shook his head. As if.
"No... I hope so. I really like her so much."
So much.
