Chapter 5: Talks in Cafes

Josh's PoV

The sunlight streams through the gap in between the pale yellow curtains, forcing my sleep to go away. I slowly open them, trying to adjust to the lighting of the room and I can just about see a figure in front of me. I blink my eyes, trying to get them to focus. I look around me, and realise Jen is sleeping, her head on my chest. I move a little, causing her to stir.

"Aww don't you look adorable together?" my cousin teases. This brings a small blush appear on my cheeks which makes Kat smirk. I feel Jen start to wake up, and Kat notices.

"Had a good sleep, huh Jen?" Kat raises her brow in amusement. Jen doesn't understand at first, but then realises. She pulls away really quickly and blushes a bright red.

"You jealous that you didn't get to sleep next to your wonderful cousin, eh Kat?" I retort, Kat shooting me a glare in response. 

"I'm gonna go to the bathroom," Jen says quietly... and almost awkwardly, and then she speedwalks out.

"You know you made everything really awkward," I tell Kat and she nods. I glance over towards my phone, and look at the time- 8:30. It seems too early to have been woken up. My phone buzzes, indicating I have a text.

From: Avan

Hey you wanna hang out?

I look over to where I see Jen's back and talking to Kat.

"Hey, Avan wants to hang out with me- d'ya guys want to join us?" I ask.

"Sure, if thats fine with him."

I text back.

To: Avan

Sure- what time? and can the girls come?

I get a response from him almost mmediately.

From Avan

11 at the usual? and sure

To: Avan

ok see you then 

I lock my phone, and tell the girls to get ready.

I push the door open, the scent of freshly cooked chocolate chip cookies and warmth hitting me instantly. I look towards the two girls who look around in awe.

"This place is beautiful," Jen says, her voice no louder than a whisper. I smile, and nod. I look around and find who I'm looking for. I pull Jen's arm, who takes Kat by the arm and we walk towards the table in the corner by the window.

"Hey man," I greet the dark haired boy.

"Hey guys," he replies, acknowledging us all. We all take a seat around the round table and make some small talk.

"I'm going to go order- anyone want anything?”

“I’ll have the usual,” Avan responds.

“Hmm…,” Jen thinks, “can I have a hot chocolate?”

“I’ll come with you,” Kat offers, “and I’ll decide then.” The look in her eyes definitely says that there’s something more that she wants to talk about. We head down to the counter, and Kat faces me.

“What happened last night?” Last night? I send her a confused look, causing her to sigh.

“How come Jen’s all happy today?” she pauses, then she looks at me in realisation, “she’s told you hasn’t she?”

“Errr…”

“What was it about?” she asks. I look away from Kat’s gaze, and over at the table we had just left from.

“I can’t tell you,” I tell her, knowing I couldn’t give her the answer she’s looking for, “it’s not my place to say.”

“Don’t I have the right to know? She’s my best friend, I want to know,” Kat persists, her eyes pleading, but I shake my head.

“I’m sorry Kat, but please understand, I can’t tell you. Only Jen can, so lets drop this, please.” I look at her earnestly, and finally she sighs, giving in.

“Okay, I’ll let this go.” I give her a gracious smile and just as I’m about to say something, she interrupts me, “You’re buying me a hot chocolate though.” I roll my eyes, but smile, knowing she feels  a bit better.

Jen’s PoV

Josh and Kat leave the table, leaving me and Avan alone on the table, which I wish they didn't. Not that there was anything wrong with him, its just that we didn't really know each other, at all.

Well, here's the opportunity to do that, eh?

"So," Avan says, "liking it here in LA?" 

"Yeah," I agree, "its nice down here, I love it! Plus I've made some good friends already, so its all good!" He laughs a little, then it gets kinda awkward.

"Beautiful weather we're having, eh?" I blurt out, causing Avan to raise his eyebrows at me, a smirk plastered on his face.

"Really?"

"I didn't know what to say!" I defend myself. 

"So you go straight to the weather?"

"YES!"

"WE-EEE ARE NEVER EVER GETTING BACK TOGETHER!" I hear a familiar voice sing... or shout completely out of tune. Turning around, I see that it's Kat, singing as they're waiting for the orders to be made. I laugh and say to Avan jokingly, "Thank god this is not a performance piece she has to do!" Kat was an amazing singer when it came to songs she liked, she preferred to sing quite badly.

"I think she's amazing," I hear Avan quietly whisper. Aww isn't that sweet? WAIT.

Oh my gosh.

He does doesn't he?

I mean why wouldn't he?

I realise you don't have a clue what I'm talking about.

AVAN has a CRUSH on KAT.

This is the moment where I'd go all fangirl and squealy, but I am a mature young adult, so I won't say anything.

"YOU HAVE A CRUSH ON KAT!" I exclaim quietly. 

I'm not really mature, not one freaking  bit. 

Avan looks at me, his eyes wide. Thank god he wasn't drinking anything, he would have done a spit take. And although that would be hilarious, I would get a bit covered. Wait, I'm going off topic.

"What?" he says, surprise etched on his face.

"YOu have a crush on Kat. And don't deny it, not that you can." I could see a blush creeping up his neck, making me smirk. "Don't worry, I'm not going to tell her."

"No, you'll try and set us up," Avan says to me. I shake my head at that comment.

"I actually won't," I reassure him, "as long as you ask her out soon." 

"What are you guys chit-chatting about?"someone says behind me, scaring me to death, and suprisingly, scaring Avan.

"Oh... err..nothing," I stutter out.

"We were talking about.. err.. the weather," Avan adds. The other two give us weird looks, but drop the subject. I give Avan a look, but he simply shrugs.

So I focus on the beauty in front of me...

.....the hot chocolate.

AN: I'm sorry for the crappiness of this chapter. I really am. And for making y'all wait this long.
