SEVEN: MARE

I woke up in my bed, yet a little groggy. But Cal wasn't beside me.

''Hey...'' He said.
''Hi...''
''Sorry to have to get in this subject this early, but are you going to talk with your family about the Republic thing?'' He asked gently.
''Yeah. Well, I have too.'' I said while getting up. ''After breakfast.''
''Okay.'' He said while I put my clothes. "I will respect your time.''

During breakfast no one said a word. We just ate in silence. After it, we went to Montford's cemetery, to bury my father. MY FATHER.

I was devastated. Well, everyone in my family and others were. I cried the whole time, even Bree cried, who was a very difficult person to be shaken. The bury time was the most difficult one. While I was watching it, I remembered when Shade was... So I turned my back to the scene and cried in Cal's chest. He was also crying. Everyone was wearing black.

Later that day, Davidson announced that we were going to mourn for three days.

When it ended we all decided to take the rest of the day as a free day.

Cal and I decided to go to our own rooms. But instead of staying on his own room he accompanied me to mine.

We entered mine room and I threw myself in my bed.

He just observed the garden by the window.

''Cal... I need to tell you something.'' '
"Go ahead.'' He said still looking at the window.
''Early, when I say my family...I can't leave them now. We're too shaken.'' I said.
''I-I also don't know what to do Mare. I don't want to leave you but I need to go to Norta to start our project...The Nortan States.'' He said thoughtful while rubbing his temple.
''We're a mess...'' I said while rubbing my eyes.
''I'm leaving in one day. So, you really need to decide whether staying or coming with me...but I don't want to be pushy. '' He said while walking to my side.
''I'm going to talk to my family.'' I said while walking to the hall of his room.

He just observed me. He let me go.

''Mom? Are you in there?'' I asked gently.

After a second my sister opened the door.

''Hey...'' I bring her into a hug.
''Do you want to talk with mom?'' Gisa asked.
''Well actually I want to talk with all of you." I said while entering the room.
''Cal want me to go with him to announce The Nortan States...But I don't think I should.'' I said to my family.

Although my mom wasn't in the living room.

''Mare...'' A voice caught my attention.

Then, my mom came out of her room.

''I really think you should go with him.''
''Mom!'' I said while going to give her a big hug.
''Why do you think that?'' I asked her.
''I just think that you need...you need a break. And you father would be proud of you.'' Ruth said with a tear streaming down her face. I wiped it off.
''I agree with mom, you need to do something that will benefit everyone and also...'' Tramy said while getting up of the sofa. ''We'll be fine.'' He said rubbing his thumb on my shoulder.
''Umm...Bree what do you think?'' I asked him.
''I'm ...okay with that.'' He said sadly.
''Come on Bree...tell me the truth."
''Well, when are you going?'' He said looking at me in the eye.
''Maybe tomorrow.''
"Then why are you asking us that? You have the opportunity to make things right for the first time Mare...'' He said.

''I'm coming with you.'' I said while entering Cal's room.
''What?'' Cal said quite surprised.
''We are going to make things right for the first time in the Nortan history Cal.'' I say determined.
''So, let's do it Mare Barrow.''

We packed our things in less than two hours.

''Have you got everything?'' He asked me.
''Yes, I'm not taking everything that I have here with me. I just packed the most important things that I need.''
''Such as...'' He insisted.
''Some clothes and photos of my family.'' I said while looking at a photo of Shade and my dad. ''I miss them.''
''Me too...actually I was related to Shade...he was my best friend.'' Cal said while hugging me. I felt his voice in his chest.
''Shade used to talk about you with me ... he said you two were very close friends.''
''When he died... I couldn't handle it.'' He said.
''But the changes that are about to happen are going to be for him and my dad.'' I said.

Then, Cal gave me a smooch and a kiss on my forehead. He looked at me determined.

''That's my Cal.'' I thought.

When I woke up the next morning, I took a quick shower and put my day clothes. Well, actually I put my most comfortable clothes since we were going to take a long flight. And just waited for Cal to show up.

''Morning babe.'' I said when Cal showed up at the door with our breakfast.
''Thanks for bringing the food here.''
''Oh, don't thank me, thank Carmadon for letting me get our breakfast before the others.''

We ate breakfast peacefully in my room and after that we went to the main hall to meet Dane and Carmadon.

''Good morning Mare and Cal.'' Carmadon greeted us.
''Morning.'' Cal said. I just gave them a nod.
''Is the jet here yet?'' A feminine voice caught my attention. Diana Farley.
''Yes.'' Davidson said.
''It is at our base. Soon, we can already put already your luggage in it."
''Well, I don't have anything to bring with me.'' She said.
''We just have two bags.'' I said to them.
''Then, we can already start the boat process.'' Dane said.

Quickly, we put our things on the jet and we were ready to fly. But I had to say bye to my family.

When I got out of the jet, I saw my family on the outside of it.

''Bye...'' I said while giving a hug to each one of them. Even my best friend was there.
''Bye Kilorn...I'll miss you.''
''Bye Mare.''
