When Mare finished her conversation with Farley, we went to the governor room, since I had a meeting with Davidson. Mare accompanied me.

A new life. A fresh start. Was all I could think of.

After the arrival we needed to wait till Davidson decided to show his lovely face. So, we sat down in the hall. Mare was by my side holding my hand. Even a little nervous I felt that I could do anything.

He arrived shortly and soon we started the meeting.

"Well, what is this meeting about?"
"As you know we have defeated Maven and we decided to go forward with our plan of building a Republic." I said.
"Well, I think that I can help with the basics and then explain all the little things." He offered.
"That will mean a lot." Mare said looking to me. But her face seemed worried.
"Are you worried?" I asked.
"Yes, because what will the rest of the silvers think of this? They won't accept it."
"We will try our best Mare" Davidson said.

We continued the meeting for about one hour more.

Davidson explained us all the things that we needed to do. Constitution, working laws, fair payments...

"Thank you very much Dane." Mare said.
"Thank you." I said shaking his hand.
"You're welcome, both of you."
After, we headed to Mare's room to get a coat.
"So, you think that the silvers are going to turn into rebels?" She asked.
"Actually I think they are going to be very pissed but not rebels. They will have their privileges but they will need to learn to share it with the reds." I added.
"I'm very impressed by your determination on this project." She said while opening the door.
"Doing the best I can." I said holding her hand.

I could see the hope in her eyes.

Then she smiled.

I could look at her all day.

After lunch Mare needed to talk with her family. I decided not to go since it was family business. I just waited in my room reading the final pages of my mom's diary.

Minutes later I heard a knock on my door.
"It must be Mare." I thought.

But who I saw was Farley.

"Hey Calore."She said holding Clara.
"Good afternoon Farley. What are you doing here?"
"Oh, I was doing nothing with Clara and I decided to show here to talk about the new project."
"Sure, come in." I invited.

We sat down on the two sofas that I had on my guest room.

"So, Mare told me about the Republic. I couldn't believe the first time I heard."
"Yeah, Mare was so excited as well. A few hours ago, we had a meeting with Davidson because I didn't had a clue of how a Republic functions."
"Yeah me too." She said while caressing Clara's hair.

Clara was a beautiful baby. Her hair was as golden as Farley's and her eyes were like Shade's.

"Mare told me about a family chat earlier. Do you know what is it about?" I questioned.
"I don't know but it seems important."

Suddenly we heard a crying coming from the corridor. I could recognize that voice everywhere.

"It's Mare!" I said worriedly.
"I'm going to check her family." Farley said.
"Go." I said while exiting my room.

In seconds I was in front of Mare's room. I tried opening the door. It was locked.

"Mare can you open the door please? I want to help you!"

No answer.

"MARE!" I shouted.

No answer.

At the same second, Carmadon showed up at my side with a key on his hand.

"What's this?"
"It's the second key of her room. Keep it with you."
"Thank you."
He nodded and left me alone in the corridor.

I opened the door and the scene shocked me. Mare was lying in bed with her pillow on her face crying.
I ran to her side and hugged her.

"What happened? Mare answer me please!"

Quickly, she tried to calm down and looked at me. Her eyes were red.

"What happened?"
"It's my dad. He's not well..."
"What happened to him? Is he alright?" I questioned.
"Remember when he got new lungs?"
"Yeah, Sara helped him right?"
"Yes but they stopped functioning suddenly after lunch, thank god a healer helped him. If it wasn't for him he would have died." She said looking down.
"But is he better now?" I asked apprehensively.
"Yes, he is in the nursery. I'm going to visit him later."

I let her calm herself down while I rubbed her back.

"Do you want me to go with you?" I asked trying to make her feel better.
"Yes... but can you just stay here a little longer?" She said sadly.
"I'm not going anywhere Mare."
