Chapter 16:
Have you ever had that moment in your life when you've been through or seen something so heartbreaking that all your senses, both of mind and physicality, seem to disappear and your response to it is completely unordinary? I guess you could say the dark insanity of me grasped the sane part of me once I witnessed my sister and House. I mean, how else would I run miles away, or seemingly miles away without having been chased by cannibals or monsters of some sort, from some sort of fantastical stories made up by a bunch of goons?... Exactly, I couldn't have.
Growing increasingly frustrated with the lack of running ability I had due to heels Carla placed me in to match me equally long dress, I stop, leaning against the tree I had known for quite sometime. I place my back upon its side, trusting its strength to hold me up as I pull up my dress the slightest bit and lift my left leg up, harshly yanking the closed-toed heels from my aching feet before carelessly thrusting it into the darkness of night. I repeat the same careless method with my other shoe before setting both feet to the ground, emotionlessly standing there while looking out into the distance.
Looking upon the view I'd gazed at multiple times before with him, I freeze and my heart stops in my chest, skipping a few beats. The ground allows me a comfrotable hold as I fall to the ground, shattered in pieces I didn't realize were a part of me until this very moment as I feel myself break, laying on the cold, dirt solid ground. My upper torso somehow manages to stay up from the dirt, but the rest of me is collapsing, my head to my hands, elbows to my knees, knees touching the ground as my butt sat on the soles of my feet. Uncontrollable sobs rack my body as I replay the scene over in my head.
They were leaned upon the tree, House's back against it, his lips moving against hers as hers moved against his passionately. Her hands, obviously very satisfied, roamed about his chest, gripping his tuxedo collar tightly within her hands. He, however, stayed modest and kept his left hand on her shoulder, the other on her upper back. His eyes widened once he saw me but made no... WAIT.
Done with dealing with my sister after all these years and taking every good thing in my life away, I lift my head from my hands, plus someone's hands had been placed on my shoulder. "Ay, we saw what happened. Are you alright?" Rocket questions, his eyes glancing into mine. I allow him to help me stand on my own two feet, but I don't answer his question.
"Where is he?" I hurriedly ask, his eyebrows furrowing.
"Where is who?" He responds, completey puzzled in the change of my behavior.
"She's talking about Towerblock... Oh, he's going to get it now." A new voice emerges from the dark. I see blonde hair and know it's Nick.
"Do you know where he is?" I plead practically, awaiting a desperate response to which I couldn't wait for.
"I may or may not. But before I do reveal-"
"Cut the crap, Medhurst. It's urgent." I growl, his eyes widening at the tone of my voice. His mouth opens as though to ask more questions, but I cut him off, "His hands had been placed as if he were trying to nicely and subtly pry her off him. He'd made no effort because he didn't want her to get hurt. His lips moved but not as if he'd been into it... they were slow and very soft movements. His back against the tree.. He'd mentioned the comment when we'd been paired up one of my first missions that he'd liked to take dominance, not the girl. His back had literally been AGAINST THE WALL. She'd made the move on him." I briefly explain my logic to him before he comprehends it and understands.
"Last time I saw him he was where you'd caught him, but Byrd and everyone else was biting his bloody ear off. We came searching for you because Carla-"
"Is afraid of the dark. Thank you, Nick. See you two back at the tent." I breathe quickly, tugging the ends of my dress up and gathering the flowy fabric before running back the way I came. I rush there, ignoring the dust my socks were gathering because all that mattered to me is my heart. I make a quick left turn and run right into Carla who is making out with Skipper. I shiver at the sight, but ignore it, quite happy they both found love... even if it is for a night.
"Kar-"
"Where's Gordon?" I exhale in a huff as I recover from my dash across the camp site. She stops talking, unable to form words to comprehend why I was looking for him. Skipper however, came to his senses.
"He walked back to the party I think, muttering something about getting a drink?" He sounds confused so I nod with a smile on my face, looking between them.
"Good choice both of you. And Gordon's not guilty. My sister is, so when you see her, give her a nice big sock in the face." I grin at Carla before heading off towards the place I knew Gordon would be.
