(A.N.This is a toothless x hiccup fic so if that isn't your cup of tea then I guess this isn't for you! This is based a few weeks after httyd 2. In this fic stoic survived the blast, and toothless has anxiety and panic attacks due to the fight with the bewilderbeast. Some Dragons also have the ability to talk to some people in this fic. This is also my first fan fiction so if you have any pointers I could really use them!)
Toothless POV: I woke up. frightened and panicked, Gasping for air. I rushed to my feet, not at all comfortable in my previous position. now completely conscious, I took into realisation of what was happening, I attempted to calm myself, using certain breathing exercises that I was tought to use in situations like this. I scanned the room frantically, my mind seemed to enjoy playing tricks on me, crossing between reality and my dreams. This wasn't the first time I've been through this, waking up from a strange nightmare. It's something that has been happening quite frequently these past few months... which every time leaves me feeling unnaturally warm. Should I tell him? I thought, looking over my shoulder towards hiccup, who was peacefully resting in his bed. No... he deserves his rest. I said in my head. But the heat I was feeling cought my attention once more. I stood from my large slab like bed and dragged myself on tired legs towards the open window for some air.
It was way past midnight, which made me sigh a little. I've always loved my late night adventures with hiccup, that are becoming more and more difficult to plan for, with me being alpha and taking care of a load of dragons, and stoick preparing hiccup to be chieftain of berk some day... as I poked my head outside, I saw the village guards with their torches on their patrols around berk, I waited for an opportunity to hoo out and get some air. I wasn't scared of being seen, as my scales have me covered in that. Quite literally. But more about the noise that I could possibly make, as I wouldn't manage to make a silent landing in my tired state. As soon as the streets were clear, I hopped out the window.
I was met with a cold night breeze when hitting the soft grass below me, but it was almost calming. I sniffed the air. *nothing....*confused as to why I couldn't smell the usual faint ocean waters. I was cought in my imagination and completely stopped paying attention to the world surrounding me. I was trapped in my train of thought for what felt like hours, but only mere moments passed. I was wanting to distract myself from the horrible memories and flashbacks that my mind seemed to torment me with. But I was quickly dragged back into the real world when my stomach was growling for food. pulling me towards the great hall. which thankfully served meals to both dragons and humans 24/7. upon my arrival at the large doors, I was stopped by the noise of wings flapping behind me, the dragon landed with a thud, and began approaching me. "Hello, alpha" he said in a polite manner. "Oh, hello cloudjumper...." I replied with a quiet, tired grumble. Looking down at my paws. From what I seen at the corner of my eye, He seemed concerned. Knowing I should be sleeping at this time, but of course, I was quite the opposite. By now he was at my side. his wing was draped over me in a sign of comfort, making me look up at him in surprise at the gesture, not understanding what he was doing. "C'mon, let's get you indoors. It's cold out here." And without any hesitation, he pulled me along into the great hall.
We finished eating at the trough. The room was lit by many torches scattered across the walls, but the main fire is where everyone was seated, all kinds of Viking were in the hall at this time, rambling to each other and telling all sorts of stories that sounded rather intriguing. I only hoped hiccup could tell me of these tales that I couldn't help but overhear. We took a seat not too far from the large flames in the centre of the room, but kept our distance from the humans. "Sooooo.... What's keeping you up?" He spoke rather concerned after a long period of silence. "I've.... been having nightmares..... ever since that battle, I just can't seem to relax anymore. And they're getting more and more frequent as the days pass... it's worrying me...." I sighed in unusual discomfort when giving the information. "That's.... unfortunate... is there anything I can do to help?" He cares for me.... always making sure I'm happy. I enjoyed his presence, it was always rather comfortingin a way. "just... I really don't kno-" "toothless? What are you doing out of bed?" I turned towards the voice speaking to me to see hiccup rushing towards me. "Uuuhhh... sorry hiccup... I just couldn't sleep..." I looked down in shame. " c'mon bud, let's get you home."
He escorted me out of the great hall after I said my goodbyes to cloudjumper, but I felt uneasy as soon as I walked out the door, something was wrong. I told hiccup about my discomfort, but he said it was just a lack of sleep. I felt something, I heard something, I knew something was watching me, but hiccup, paying no attention, continued to walk me home. We were at the house shortly after leaving the hall, but the walk felt much longer than it really was...
"Hiccup I swear something wasn't right on that walk!" I raised my voice a little when we were both in his room and he closed the door. "Shhh buddy... it's ok..." he wrapped his arms around me and whispered into my ear. Those words made me warm up inside, but I also just froze in time, stuck in my mind. *what's happening? Why can't I move? I want to tell him something, but what is it that I want to say? Have I just.... no... that's not normal... I couldn't. I can't...* when he let go, I fell back down to earth. I swear I was feeling something, but couldn't but a claw on it... "you umm, okay bud? You kinda just stared off into space for a minute." He tilted his head to the side. "Oh, yeah, umm, I'm good! Anyway, its getting late! Lets go to bed!" I rushed out of my mouth. "Uhh, suuuure..." he looked at me with a weird expression. I hopped onto my hind legs and picked him up, he questioned this, but didn't resist. I soon fell onto my back, with him laying atop my chest. "Toothless you know I can sleep on my own, right?" "Oh... right... I'm sorry, must've gotten carried away there..." I felt disappointed in myself for some reason. "But this'll be just fine..." he hugged into my exposed underside. "Hey, you never told me. What really kept you up?" He asked after a moment of silence. "Oh... the nightmares... they came back tonight..." I answered plainly. "Oh... well.... you don't need to worry about nightmares anymore buddy, I'll keep you nice and safe from them! Just close your eyes, I promise I'll be right here when you open them again..." he patted my side with one of his hands that were stretched out. "Well... goodnight I guess..." I said quietly. " sleep well, tooth..." and I slowly went to sleep, calm, warm, and feeling secure... and prepared myself for the best night sleep I've had in a while....
(( I'm not too confident about my writing but as I said any pointers are very welcome! This is a pilot, and I hope to get more writing done for other chapters, But I Hope you liked it!))
