"Atwood!" Commander Giles bellowed.
"Gah! Hi commander." Regan smiled at his commander who also happened to be his uncle.
"I don't want to do this but you're going to have to do detention," Commander Giles said. "Go sit down."
Regan did as he was told and sat at his desk which was located beside a gendre-fluid kid called Jesse. Jesse was pretty short compared to the rest of them but he was a guy and girl who could swap genders, not by willpower because it came naturally. Regan studied Jesse and decided he was female today.
"Sup girl," He flashed her a smile.
Jesse looked at him and scowled, "I'm male today Dangoo. You're lucky Giles is you're family otherwise you'd be booted for sure...just like--" Regan knew what Jesse was going to say and cut him in time.
"I know man. It's just...whatever." Regan turned away from his shoulder partner to focus on what went out the window.
Class, especially Giles', were somehow very boring for Regan. He preferred outdoor class like target practice and one-on-one dueling classes. Worst yet was that Giles thought them warrior history. Regan never listened but somehow always passed his test with flying colours. He enjoyed to stare out the window while the commander yapped about some history about the past warriors.
Today was no exception. They were learning about the time when the Skyhaven Academy was attacked. Regan had heard all about it when he was a child so he found that it was no point in listening. He stared out the window and watched a black bird soar around far away. The bird had massive black wings and a pale body, except for its head which were black. It flew in circles like it was dancing. Regan admired the bird until...
"Woah!" Jesse said, he was also looking at the bird. "Is that an angel? With black wings?"
"Shut up Jes. It's a bi--" Regan saw what looked like human legs that were attached to the bird. Could it have been an angel? He was too startled to say anything.
"Mama." Young Regan looked up at his mom. "You said there were angels, right? But how come I never see them?"
Regan's mother smiled weakly, "Angels? One day you will meet one. It will save you. You will meet one. Don't worry."
"Okay mama," Regan went to the window and gazed out of it...
"Okay! What are you puny cadets looking at?" The gruff voice of the commander ripped Regan out of his thoughts.
"Sir, but there seems to be a black winged bird that looks like an angel soaring outside," a girl told the commander.
"Gah a black winged angel? Those do not exist anymore. Focus on me and look at my tee." Everyone groaned at the commander's horrific rhyme. But they did listen to him and in no time class was over. "Alright cadets it's free period so go do whatever you want. Atwood, detention office."
Everyone started talking and walking out of class in a very disordered manner. Regan looked at his uncle trying to persuade him to remove his detention with his eyes. Commander Giles looked at Regan, his eyes bored.
"Sorry buddy no can do," His uncle shook his head and slung an arm around Regan's neck.
"Awwwww...please uncle Giles?" Regan whined as how he usually did at home. His uncle smiled and patted his back, shaking his head. Regan hung his head and shuffled off to the detention hall.
---
"Mr. Atwood?" The detention teacher looked at him with disappointment, because the Atwood family never ever got into detention. Also because the detention teacher had thought Regan's father and his gramps.
"Hi ma'am!" Regan tries for a smile. "How are you?"
"As well as you boy'o," she replies him. " What did you get into this time? Surely your uncle wouldn't have sent you here because you were good...right?"
Regan hung his head in shame again. "I was late for class." The detention teacher's eyes widened as big as saucers.
"You'd better not let Nora hear about this," she smirked, making her wrinkled face crinklier. Regan smiled and the two chatted non-stop until Regan's detention was over.
"Bye boy'o... Tell Nora I said hi okay?" She calls as Regan sprints out of the detention hall towards his next class, one-on-one duelling.
Regan sprinted to the courtyard but was stopped by one of his seniors, Kulikov. Kulikov was buff, he was tan and he was one of the best graduated the academy has ever housed. Regan looked up to Kulikov and his buddies. He--
"Woah there little man. Running is not permitted in these halls. Slow down 'kay?" Kulikov held Regan by his shoulders preventing him from running off. Regan nodded without thinking why he needed to because he was lost in his thoughts about Kulikov.
Kulikov let him go. Regan continued to run but at a slower pace. He didn't stop until he met Drew at the duelling area.
"Yo dude! Guess what? Detention for me." Regan plastered a smile on his tan face. Drew looked at him and smiles.
"It's about time you got into one of those." He laughs at Regan.
Regan huffs and mutters something Drew cannot hear and walks to the duelling rink. His first opponent: Scott Martin, a guy whom Regan had only duelled once years ago when Kendra was still in the academy. Scott was still that good looking guy with the baby face he was years ago.
"Hey buddy boi," Scott fires a Blue Fireball at Regan, who deflects it effortlessly. "Where's your 'gurlfren'?" Scott was talking about her.
"Who? The drop-out?" Regan laughed and plastered a fake smile on his face. "Dead...probably. Hopefully."
"It's your fault she got booted buddy boi." he said, shrugging and firing another spell at Regan. He could feel his anger rising because he hated facing the truth of her expulsion. "Well, you made her--"
"Enough!!!!" Regan screamed, letting his emotions get the better of him.
He let out a ear-piercing scream then everything went dark...
To be continued...
