Kabanata 16

I instantly jolted up when consciousness hit me. Tila ba biglang nagkaroon ang katawan ko ng pagkakataon na makalanghap muli ng hangin.

As I slowly examined the place I am at, napansin ko na masyadong napakalaki at napakalinis ng kwarto. I slowly got up from the bed, discarding the soft and ever so comfortable white mattress from my body.

There are no picture frames nor something that can identify who's been living here.

Napatingin naman kaagad ako sa nag iisang bintana na nakita ko, I immediately pull the curtains away to somehow figure out where am I but sadly, I am not good with places.

I knotted my eyebrows in confusion as to why the whole window is barred with silver vertical bars. A thick one. There is something in here that I can not put my finger on.

Is it to avoid me from running away?

As the heated sun rays met my body and face, I felt the warmth I was looking for. Ipinikit ko ang aking mga mata habang dinama ang init na galing sa haring araw na tirik na tirik at hikad ang init.

Good thing that I am still dressed with my clothes from last night- Oh for fuck's sake!

Last night's memories came to me like a river of fire. Hurting my head in the process.

Wolves-Or just huge dogs. Blood.

"Shit! Where's my phone?" Tanong ko sa sarili nang hindi ko nakapa ang aking telepono sa aking bulsa.

Dali-dali akong nagtungo sa pinto ng silid. And when I turned the knob, I was ecstatic to find that it's open! Kailangan ko nang umuwi.

But considering how badly damaged our house was basing from last night's happenings, I highly doubt that we'd still have a house to return to. Nagulat ako nang makita kung gaano kalaki ang bahay. I was admiring the structure of the house, though I can only see the interior of it, I am hell sure that the exterior is just as beautiful as it is inside. It was a white marble house design, making it look so exquisite and elegant looking. The monochromatic hues of each and every bits of the corners and furniture of the house has it.

The white marble tiles are cold on my feet, making me shiver a bit even though the weather outside is warm enough to keep me dehydrated. The morning breeze makes me smile even though my night was a complete opposite of how the sun shines so brightly up above the sky today.

It's comforting.

Dahan-dahan akong naglakad patungo sa hagdan pababa, making sure to not to create as much noise as possible. As I am feeling light-headed I still made it to the bottom of it, but things spiraled out of control when I saw a humongous wolf outside the compound. I can see through the glass that's separating me from the beast outside.

I screamed on top of my lungs. Napaupo ako sa sahig at patuloy ang pagsigaw habang nakatitig sa labas, kung nasaan ang napakalaking lobo. And so suddenly, people started to appear behind me. They were looking at me like I had grown another head, some gasps and some was left with their mouth hanging open.

Shit.

Shit.

I didn't notice that this house was crowded.

They think I'm a fucking weirdo, but who wouldn't scream when you just saw a humongous wolf? Staring blankly at you.

I slowly started to collect myself in front of them, to somehow save a face. And when Veltus came out of the corner, I was somewhat relieved to find a familiar face amongst these strangers.

"Give her time," He said, then the people gave me a final glance before disappearing. He sashayed his way on my side before holding his hand out to me for support.

"Breakfast?" He offered.

I nodded my head no, "I need to check on my parents. Let me out of here."

"No, I can't. This is an order from him." Veltus said firmly.

I rolled my eyes at him. And in the process, my head was attacked by crashing waves of pain, kaya naman kung hindi dahil kay Veltus ay nasa sahig nanaman ako ngayon.

We walked in the midst of the people. Some were eyeing me with adoration, while a few were glancing at me darkly. Announcing their disappointment and... what was that? Jealousy? Anger? For what?

I still don't understand. Yeah, given that all emotions are valid, but right now, all I can say was to fuck themselves if they were to attack me.

But, again, I don't think they'll do it sooner or later. By basing on their looks, they hold too much respect for Veltus, and maybe for Travis?

"Hey," I said before taking a seat in the right corner of the table, "Where's Travis, by the way? What happened after-"

"He's taking his time, don't worry about him too much. He can handle it."

"Uhuh, care to expound the 'it' you were talking about?"

"I'd rather he tell you that himself, he'll be here before dinner."

"Kung ako sa'yo, kumain ka muna. You'll be needing as much as strength you can gather," Nanliit ang mata ko habang nakatingin saknaiya.

He's currently putting eggs and bacons on my plate, kaya naman kinuha ko na ito sakaniya at ako mismo ang nagpatuloy nito.

Ngunit hindi yata matatahimik ang isip ko ngyaon, I needed to ask this.

"Do you know what happened after I passed out, though?"

"Yeah, he pretty much carried you here. Alpha Travis was the one who pu-"

"You mean to say, hindi ka nakasunod doon? I also remembered a bit of blood!"

"Nope, he finished them before we could even intervene. All we did was to clean up aft-"

"Then, what are those? Wolves, right?"

He just shrugged his shoulders off and took a bite on his bacon. Buong umaga ay 'yon lamang ang iniisip ko. Kung anong nangyare after. After I passed out, what happened? Was Travis badly hurt?

Nang magtanghali ay may dumating na kasambahay sa loob ng silid na itinuro sa akin ni Veltus, mayroon lamang 'daw siyang gagawin na importante kaya't iniwan niya ako dito sa silid.

The housemaid brought me new clothes and a few pairs of slippers to wear. I was able to take a bath and freshen up, I was halfway done wearing a tank top when suddenly, the bedroom door opened.

It was Travis.

And Veltus with two other men behind and a female on the side.

Naestatwa naman ako dahil sa bilis ng nangyari kaya hindi ko kaagad naibaba ang damit at nakita nila akong lahat ng ganoon, with just shorts and sports bra on.

Nang mahimasmasan ay agad ko itong sinuot at halos hindi na makatingin sakanilang lahat.

"Leave," I am a hundred percent sure it was from him.

And when I looked up, I was greeted by his dark, menacing look. I can see how his jaw moves and the way he closes the door behind him without breaking eye contact.

I can now look at his face with much clearer vision. I gasp loudly when I noticed some scratches here and there, also the red areas that are peeking out his sleeves. As much as I would like to stare at his veins on his arms, I quickly averted my gaze when he cleared his throat.

"I need a word with you before I present you to the Officials." he said.

Kinunutan ko siya ng noo, "Travis, I wanna go home. I don't even want to talk to you right now."

Hindi ko 'rin alam kung saan ba ako kumukuha ng lakas ng loob ngayon at nasabi ko iyon ngayong ganito siya kaseryoso at hindi inaalis ang tingin sa akin.

"Walang uuwi, Althea. Sit and we'll talk," He said with much finality in his voice.
