"WHERE HAVE YOU BEEN?" LUCIEN HEARD DRACO ASK. GLANCING UP, HE SAW THE BLONDE one walking towards him, his hands in his pockets. Lucien had missed the feast, faking a sickness to Snape as soon as he arrived at Hogwarts, informing the man that he already knew about the Triwizard Tournament.
He had spent the rest of the night hiding from familiar faces, too afraid to talk to someone. He knew it was unlikely to happen but he felt like anyone he talked to could realize what he has become and run away from him.
Just his luck, Draco had found him by the stairs leading up to Ravenclaw common room. "I missed the Hogwarts Express," Lucien replied as Draco sat next to him, letting out a quiet sigh.
"I realized," Draco deadpanned.
"Great observation skills, Malfoy," Lucien rolled his eyes. "Do you also want me to give Slytherin 100 points because of your innovative sarcasm?"
"Bloody hell, what's wrong with you?" Draco shook his head as he let out a small laugh. When he realised Lucien's sour expression didn't fade away, his laughter died down fairly quick. "Are you okay, Lucky?"
"I am," Lucien replied, cringing at the nickname. The name wasn't the best, but he wasn't going to blame Draco on that, the blonde was only 11 when he came up with it. He wasn't going to deny the fact that the nickname always cheered him right up. Whenever Draco used the nickname, it was only to make Lucien feel better somehow or to annoy him. In this case, he wasn't trying to annoy him. He knew something was off, but Lucien was sure he could never guess the reason why.
Even he hadn't come to terms with what happened, how could anyone notice he was one of them? Right?
The numb feeling had been long gone now, his emotions running high. That was why he has avoided any kind of social interaction, hiding away. He normally would be overjoyed to see the blonde boy, but he couldn't help but think of the Malfoy's blank faces as they watched it. It wasn't Draco's or his parents' fault, though this didn't stop Lucien from getting frustrated with them. But mostly he was mad at himself for letting it happen, and he was mad at everything that reminded him of the mark engraved on his arm.
And now, he hated that Draco was sitting next to him, ready to help him with any problem he might have. He hated that the boy had found him when he desperately needed to be alone. Even Dodie and Ivy haven't spoken to him after what happened, which he appreciated.
