Punishment is not for revenge, but to lessen crime and reform the criminal. ~Elizabeth Fry
Michael's POV
"Hey Michael," Ashton came up to me. We were standing in a police station, after dealing with a recent criminal in this small town we were ready to head back. But I guess that's not what the plans were guessing by Ashton's next words. "We just got a call."
"Where are we going?" I asked.
"We're staying right here." Ashton said. "There was an incident at the high school." I groaned but followed Ashton out to the car as I slid on my sunglasses, covering my eyes from the extreme sun here.
We arrived at the school and my jaw dropped when I saw the smoke and flames, hundreds of kids still standing outside the school.
"Oh my gosh.." I mumbled. "What do you think happened?"
"That's what we're about to find out." Ashton sighed as he parked the car and we climbed out, walking towards the group of people.
"Detective Irwin, Detective Clifford. Nice to meet you." A man smiled politely as he shook both of our hands. "My name is Barry Kash, I'm the vice principal at the school."
"Nice to meet you." Ashton said and I gave a nod of my head as I looked over at the building, almost out of flame and pure smoke. While glancing at the building I turned slightly to my right and saw a tall lanky blonde standing with a brunette. I couldn't help but noticed how..Scared he looked. I was about to approach him but we were interrupted by another man.
"What have you found out?" The vice principal asked the man. I noticed something in his hand.
"This was no accident." He said and lifted up the item to me. I took it out of his hand and looked it over.
"You're telling me, this was no accident?" I asked.
"No, it was a remote used to set the bomb in the basement off." The man shook his head.
"Bomb? No one said anything about that." I scoffed.
"Yeah there's a piece of scrap metal that would have been the bomb in the basement. We'd try and get it up but it's melted to the floor." He replied.
"So are you trying to tell us that someone set off a bomb, in the school?" Ashton asked. "You wouldn't happen to have a record of whose been in the school, would you?" While the man continued explaining to Ashton that process of checking in and checking out I turned my head again to see the wide eyed blonde being pulled away by his friend. I could have sworn he was going to cry.
"So, one of these students or faculty members had to do it?" Ashton asked.
"Yes." The man nodded.
"Please, if you are going to question students be gentle." The vice principal sighed. "They've just watched their beloved principal burn."
"I'll keep it in mind sir." I replied. "Well, we can't go inside until the smoke clears out and it's confirmed safe to travel inside. So Ashton and I are going to head back to the office, try and figure anything out."
"You gentlemen wouldn't happen to have any idea of who would do this," Ashton said. "Would you?"
"No sir. I don't know one soul who would want to hurt this man. He was loved by everyone." The man said.
I nodded my head. "We'll get back to you if you can find anything." We walked away from the school and back in our car, driving back to the office.
