'Why am I here if I don't like it?' they ask.
'Go home if you're not going to participate.' they say.
Oooh, I just want to punch one of them. Like seriously.
You're seriously going to say that to a kid who's afraid to tell their parents they don't believe in the Bible? Like, no joke, I hear it at least five times a day.
And, to add insult to injury, I meet no one that is in the same situation, so I just bottle up these feelings until I explode, I guess. It wouldn't be a smart thing to tell a stranger my name, but I don't care at this point.
I'm Laurance. If you couldn't already tell, I've got a mild case of anger issues, otherwise known as what gets me in trouble every stinking time I do something wrong. Get this, my parents don't believe in Anger Management Classes (they also don't believe in anger issues at all, and call it self control issues), so I cope with it how I feel like.
"Laurance! C'mon! Get up. You gotta get dressed for church!"
Today, I feel like screaming.
"Chill out Dad! I'll get up when I want to!"
Seconds later, stomping was heard from the stairs and I mentally cursed myself for talking back. My bedroom door slammed open and Hayden, my adoptive father, picked me up by my hair and made me get out of bed.
"Boy! Don't talk to me that way! I'm not afraid to take away your privileges! Do you want to see your friends at church today?!" Mentally, I told him to fuck off and that they hated every fiber of my being so I didn't care about them, but I just nodded instead. "I didn't hear you."
"Yes sir."
He dropped me and I fell to the floor. "Now get dressed. A new visitor is going out to eat with us afterwards, so dress nicely."Did I mention he's the pastor? Yeah. He left the room, and I mocked him.
"Dress nicely... nenenenenea. I like to toss my kid around his room, neanene."
I stood, tired of his bullcrap and searched my drawers for something to wear. I decided on a dark green button up and black dress slacks. I stared at myself in the mirror. I'm not satisfied.
"It needs more... me."
"Laurance, sweetie. We're leaving!"
"Gimme a second, Ma." I folded up the sleeves to my elbows and put on my green vans. I like green, ok? Jump off my case. "I'm coming!"
I rushed down the stairs and up to the front door where my mom, dad, and Cadenza stood ready to go.
"Is everyone ready to go?"
"Ma, can I drive me and Laurance to church?" I glanced over a Cadenza, and Ma did as well.
"I mean, if you want to dear. I don't see a problem in it, do you Hayden?"
He thought for a moment before nodding. "I don't see a problem either. Just make sure you actually come to church." He glowered down at me before walking out the door, us behind him and his wife, Diana.
Cad jumped in the front seat with me in the passenger seat, following dad to church.
"So. You and Pops were at it this morning. What's going through your mind now?"
You might wanna know, as much as my sister is a goody two shoes, she's not a snitch. But she can be a bitch sometimes.
"I just wanna punch him in is damn face!" She gave me a warning glare, but continued.
"Watch it. But, I heard about the new family! I have juicy gossip!" I smiled and looked at her through the rear view mirror because I'm too lazy to turn my head.
