(^^Arlee's House)
After sitting at the edge of the forest for what seemed like hours, the last light turned off in Donovan's house. I tilted my snout towards the star-spotted sky and took in a deep breath.I can smell the two boys in the house and hear them whispering. There was another smell that stunk of piss and vomit, it was likely Donovan's brother.
A stick snapped a few meters away and I jumped into a defensive stance, a snarl sharp in my throat. Slowly a dark brown wolf came into my focus and my muscles relaxed.
Andy. A name flashed in my mind and I lowered my stance, turning back to the house. Andy trotted up to me and pushed his furry head into my shoulder. I grunted and snapped at his jaw. He copied my actions and then shifted.
Standing in frount of me was a human, his dark curly hair just brushing the tips of his shoulders and his mouth set in a smirk
"How did I know I would find you here?" He laughed and I growled twisting back to the house before gliding into the looming woods.Andy was right behind me, his hands casually in his jean pockets and black leather jacket puffy on his bulky body. I always wonder where our clothes go when we shift, somewhere in between I guess.
Before I could react, Andy lent down and yanked on my tail. I snarled again and swiped at his feet. He came crashing toward the ground and laughed when he hit the forest bed.
"Someone's in a mood again." He chuckled getting back up. "Talk to me Lele."I grunted and shook the dew from my white coat. I closed my eyes and shifted. My bones shook and before I knew it I could smell and head less but not by much. In human form we still have half the senses of in our wolf form, my most desired form.
I opened my eyes and saw Andy smirking again.
"Happy?" I snapped as he nodded. Andy and I had known each other for years, ever since I had been turned. He was like by brother. I pulled my thin blue flannel shirt closer around me. It wasn't cold to me but it felt like I was hiding from my memories."What your excuse this time Arlee?" Andy said walking beside me, trying to match our steps but I kept changing the speed of mine. Just to annoy him.
"I had a bad day at school and you know it makes me feel good when I see him. So I watched and made sure he and his mate got home safely." I explained and finally let my pace even out and Andy matched it.
"What happened at school?"
"Mr Warrington threatened to call home when I made a joke about him and Mr Baxter. I said that they would make a great couple. The class laughed but then I had to stay in at lunch.""Haha, I can see why you said it though, they are both gay, right?" Andy laughed and put his arm over my shoulders, and ruffled my red hair with the other. I lightly punched him with human strength and he stopped messing my hair up.
The trees thinned out as we popped out into a clearing, on the middle stood the pack house, my house. The two story house had wooden walls and windows and railings with bright white paint.
"Took you pair long enough." A familiar voice chirped and I spun towards it. Next to where we just emerged from the forest was Cole, the closest one in the pack to being my father."Your back!" I sang as I ran and jumped into his open arms, his short brown beard tickled my ears. "I missed you sooo much!!"
"So did I, pup."I used to get so angry when he would call me that, I hated being called a pup, it basically was saying that I was weak and babyish. But I've gotten used to it.
When Cole has found me when I first shifted at the age of seven, he took me in and started calling me pup, he used the nickname for Andy as well. We were practically his pups anyway.
"How was your trip?" I asked, pulling away to look at his face.
"Really good, I met a really nice woman that you pups would love."
"What was her name?" Andy asked moving in to hug Cole as well.
"Rosette."
"Do you have a photo?" I questioned when Andy backed away."I'll tell you all about my trip and Rose, but for now I want to hear about you pups."
...........................
Cole, Andy and I sat on the couch for hours, talking about high school, Cole making sure there was no boys that needed to be pounded. I reassured him that I could easily pound all the boys in my school, even the grade 12's.
Cole himself had taught Andy and I to fight and defend ourselves in case of emergencies and he wasn't there to protect us. I can happily admit that I can also pound Andy if I wanted too.
"well that's enough for one night, go to bed you two." Cole bossed and pulled Andy and I up off the comfortable wool couch. Andy groaned.
"Its only..." He looked down to his watch, eyes widening. "Okay, yeah, its like 2:30am."
We laughed and then Cole sent us to bed.Andy and I raced up the wooden stairs to the second floor where our room that we shared was located and pushed through the door and climbed into the bunk bed.
I always had the top because I love being up high whereas Andy was the opposite.
"Good night, Andy, see you in the morning."
"Night, Lele. What are we going to do tomorrow?"I thought on it then answered
"Explore, go fishing in the river, maybe even go swimming if it warms up over the day."
I pulled the doona over my body, rustling from below me, told me that Andy did the same.As I drifted to the land of sleep, I remembered that I had to plan a camping trip with my sister-like friend, Lea. I was super excited for it, this holiday was going to be great.
