I woke up in my own bed the next morning. Alric was standing over me checking my temperature. "Oh you're awake good." He put the thermometer away. "When I got a call about you not feeling well, I got worried that something happened to you. I was gonna call the doctor almost."
"No need to, I'm okay. I guess I got overwhelmed about going back again." I was probably pale as a ghost this morning.
Alric suggested, "Homeschooling is always an option if you want, not that you need an education here."
"I'll be fine, I just need to suck it up and just deal with school." The thought of seeing him again though, it was almost torture to me.
He hugged me, "If anything is bothering you just let me know." I wanted to tell him about the boy, but I didn't want it to get anymore complicated. He tossed down some medicine, "If you start feeling like you want to throw up or pass out, try these. Now get up, school isn't gonna wait for you to start."
Day 2 of school, back from the grave to only be buried alive again. Taking a deep breath I swallowed a pill with a bottle of water knowing I would need one when I saw him today. Then I got changed and headed outside to the car waiting to take me to school.
Making it to my locker, I had succeeded without bumping into him again. Grabbing my physics stuff I headed to class early. I was the first student inside the room, so I sat in the back of the room again to avoid my classmates after yesterday's incident.
The feeling of him didn't bother me as much when he walked into class on time today and sat a little farther away from me. Better for the both of us. I drew a panda bear on the edge of the blank sheet of paper open in my notebook. Looking up, he was reading something on his phone.
Mr Greene entered the classroom, his intructions were, "Find a partner and we will start our lab today." When I stood ever everyone had a partner already but him. I dreaded it when he said it, "Isabella, you will be working with Damien."
Damien, that was his name. I picked up my backpack and notebook and slowly walked to the desk next to him. "Hi," the pills seemed to be working, I was able to speak like a normal human now. " You must be Damien, sorry about yesterday."
"Are you okay? I tried to visit you but the nurse wouldn't let me see you." Mr. Greene handed out the lab sheet and Damien started the first question on the sheet.
"Yeah I'm okay, I just was feeling sick yesterday in class. I should probably eat breakfast from now on," the lie came out so easy as if it was the truth. "I'm feeling better today."
He nodded, accepting my reason why I was sick. "I have a cereal bar if you want it," He offered.
"No thanks, I'll be fine." If only he knew how he was affecting me. But in a way I liked it, I wanted to sit closer to him. I held myself back from doing so. straying off the topic of physics, "So are you new? I never saw you here before."
"Yeah, I moved from across the country recently. My dad got a new job so we had to move with him." He finished the next answer and handed me the paper.
I stared at the question and started to write the answer. Filling in the next answer I asked, "That must of been quite the drive, do you miss home?"
"It's a lot different here, but I'm adjusting." He sat up in his seat.
"I know what its like. Everyone here grew up with each other and they all know ecah other. To be the new kid is awkward in this town." I paused, "I remember when I moved in a few years ago."
He smiled, "I'm sure the people are nice once I get to know them." He took the paper after I finished writing.
If I wasn't under the influence of this pill, I would of been intoxicated by his presence. Note to self: ask Alric where to find these. His scent was like warm heaven and his eyes were gentle. Everything about him invited me.
A scream from the hallway took me out of my trance. I hurried out along with the rest of the class following Damien. A female student was in shock on the floor shaking. Everyone made space and I ran up to her instead. I sensed someone not from our school here. Looking around I saw no nothing but a trail from the creature that attacked her remaining. "She was attacked by something."
Mr. Greene offered to get the nurse and an administrator while we watched her. I quickly started to work to remove the dark aura surrounding her. Everyone else dissovled into their groups to chat and text their other friends in class so they didn't notice me. I didn't have much time before the nurse would arrive. The aura was more complicated that I was used to breaking, and I had several unsuccessful attempts. Not giving up, I got it off and it finally disappeared. Just in time also, they arrived to take her to the hospital.
I stood awkward in the hallway as they took her away. I felt into my pocket as I got a text, it was from Alric. It read, Need to talk when you get home. It's important. He probably already knew about the incident. How would I explain what happened when I wasn't sure myself.
Pocketing my phone, Damien came up to me. "That was amazing what you did btw," he whispered in my ear then he walked back into the classroom.
I chased him back into the classroom, "How did you know." The bell rung and he smiled before he left for his next class. I stood there confused for a few minutes. How did he know...
