I laid on a roof with Wizard over watching the open plaza the ambassador was having lunch with Israeli diplomats, he just kept fucking talking about Nienke. I'm gritting my teeth while staring through my sight, I wanted to say something but being on mission and technically not supposed to be here kept my mouth shut as the annoyance grew. I tried to drown it out but he just kept going "Dude, her ass is so nice. The things I'd do to her" I sighed "mate, can we not do this while protecting a diplomat?" He looked over from his spotters scope "what? You're not into that? Come on dude, you can't honestly tell me you wouldn't tap that" I gritted my teeth "how about we focus on the mission so the ambassador actually has some protection?" He replied "The teams down there with him, he'll be fine if I don't look at him for a couple seconds" just then I heard AK fire from outside the plaza, "you sure he'll be fine?" Wizard looked worried as I spoke "Blitz, Warden and Kali, get the ambassador in the SUV and back to the compound. Use extraction path zeta" I heard a quick "Ja Kommandant(yes commander)" I looked at Wizard as he started getting up "Security detail, move to support the extraction. Iana and Lion rally on me, we're going to hold the enemy in the plaza until the Ambassador is clear" I heard Nienke in reply "Already on the way, see you in a bit" I grabbed his arm "where are you going?" He looked back bewildered "I'm security detail" I shook my head "not today, today you're fighting to hold this fucking plaza. Get your gun and grab your sack cause you're not going anywhere" he crouched down as he lifted his m249 "fine" I saw a man in a black turban wearing a white mask I sighted down my mk14 and fired "Progress?"

Lion came over the radio "20 seconds, these stairs are murdering us" I sighed as more rounds started flying Wizard fired short bursts into the enemies as I selectively fired into any enemies Wizard failed to hit. Suddenly the door to the roof bust open as Nienke and Olivier came running over crouching next to me Nienke mused "Busy day huh?" I sighed "I should have a bass drum on my back and a harmonica in my mouth, I don't have enough going on" she chuckled as I peaked over the wall and fired into a squad of enemies pushing into the plaza. I looked over "Lion, tag them" he nodded and yelled "Finding our rabbits!" I heard him shortly after "3 to the right behind the pillars, 2 moving to the roof at 12 o'clock, 16 in the courtyard behind the tables and walls. 5 to the left in the alley" I nodded as I shifted my aim to the alley "Iana, nade the boys by the pillars. Teach them about spacing" she gave a chuckle as I heard the pin get pulled and Nienke yell "Frag out!" I fired into the enemies in the alley. They funneled into a line as it only took 3 rounds to kill the 5 "Alley secure, Wizard get that m249 firing! It's a warzone, shoot" he shook his head and started firing again as I yelled "reloading!" I flicked the magazine from my mk14 and replaced it with another as rounds flew through the wall almost hitting me. I sighed as I radioed, yelling over the gunfight "Blitz, eta?!" He replied "5 minutes at the least, 15 if there's ambushes and we have to redirect" I sighed before replying "keep me updated!" As I gripped my mk14 and focused on the two enemies that had just reached the roof, I breathed deeply slowing my heart and steadying my aim as I squeezed the trigger, watching as the mask's head ripped back and his corpse disappeared and the rifle fell back onto the roof. I shifted my aim to the the next target and fired again, catching the mask in the lung as he stood causing him to cough and stumble before he fell from the roof landing behind his comrades. I spoke "Iana, get a 'nade on that corpse. It'll get his friends" she threw the grenade as we heard some screams. We started relaxing when the gunfire slowly started to weaken until it went quiet, it was another 5 minutes before the gunfight finally stop. I leaned back on my leg placing my elbow on my knee checking my uniform for any wounds until I heard something bounce, causing me to look at the sound.

I saw a grenade start rolling as I tackled Lion and Iana and we hit the deck, I buried my exposed face into Nienke's neck to try to absorb any of the shrapnel heading towards her. I felt a sharp pain in my right flank as a blast was heard, rolling off of the two operators as they coughed. I looked down at the origin of the pain that radiated throughout my body, seeing a 4 inch shard of metal sticking out of my flank clipping my flank plate. I leaned again as a wall as I coughed "he....hey guys, he...help" I coughed up some blood as Nienke and Olivier ran over and started field dressing my wounds as my world came in and out of focus. I hear Olivier faintly "what's your blood type?" I coughed out "O ne-negative" I looked over to where Wizard was and saw what had happened: while I had tackled my team and hoped to protect them from the blast using myself, Wizard dove on the grenade trying his best to catch all the shrapnel. Their voices became echoey as I faded in and out of consciousness, quickly everything fell black, it only felt like a second but when I came to I was in the compounds medbay as one of the doctors looked at my vitals "Ah you're awake, you'll be up and gunfighting in a month or two. We stitched your side and gave you a blood transfusion so keep the stress on your body low. Your team did well keeping you alive until you got here" I nodded as a splitting headache formed causing me to groan as I held my forehead "hey doc, got anything for a headache?" He walked over to a cabinet as Nienke walked in "morning Mark" I nodded still holding my head as she asked "Headache?" I replied "a splitting one at that" just as the doctor handed me Advil and a glass of water. I downed both as he left, I looked at Nienke "what happened?" She sighed "we were on the roof after you passed out, I panicked for a second before Olivier walked me through what to do. We were about to start legging it back to the compound when the rounds started flying again, we traded fire for the better part of half an hour before the Masks retreated and Blitz brought the truck to retrieve Wizard and the rest of us. You've been out for 2 hours and the mission is getting cut short since the Ambassador doesn't feel safe, we'll be back in England by tomorrow." I sighed "did you get hurt? any shrapnel?" She shook her head no "Some sukkel(dumbass) took my shrapnel for me" I rolled my eyes "I'd do it again too" she cocked an eyebrow "why?" I laughed "I'd rather keep my team alive then go home with casualties" she nodded, seeming down as I spoke "so we're going home soon?" She nodded "yeah, yeah we are. Then I get to babysit since Mark has missions and Harry is giving us a break" I sighed "I'm gonna die" she hit my shoulder "don't be an ass, you'll be fine. I've taken care of you pretty well so far" I smiled "I know, I'm just teasing" she sighed "I'm gonna go get some sleep, my nerves are shot after thinking you died" I ran a hand through my hair "sorry about that, didn't mean to make you think I died" she chuckled "you seem happier" I stared at the ceiling "almost dying tends to put everything into frame" she cocked an eyebrow "and what did this experience put into frame?" I shifted my attention to her "how I feel about some stuff" she was intrigued as she leaned forwards "what stuff?" I laughed "I'll make a deal with you, in 2 months when I'm up and cleared for missions again I'll tell you" she sighed but extended her hand "let's shake on it" I shook her hand "now go get some sleep so your nerves can come back into one piece after my last stunt" she rolled her eyes with a smile "sukkel(dumbass), I'll see you when I wake up alright?" I nodded "see you then"
