I first met Luna at the hospital. She was there, waiting for her sick mother to come out of the operating room. I was sitting next to her, sniffling every few seconds. She unexpectedly held my hand as she gave me a sad smile. "It shall be okay. What is your name?" She asked me. I didn't expect her to hold my hand, but it was very comforting.
"Rose." I replied. She smiled again. Or at least, she tried to. "Luna."
Luna has been there ever since, but even she can't help me. I don't want to lose her, she's the only person I have. Yet I feel her slipping away everytime I talk to her.
Just like everyone else...

I woke up to the sound of music. Luna was playing some song or whatever. I buried myself into the covers, wishing I could just disappear. "Come on Rose, get up! It's your birthday!" She started screaming. I do not even remember my own birthday. I am too sad to celebrate for anything.
Yet I still got up and blew out the candles on the cake Luna got for me, because I have to be grateful. She is doing so much for me and I have to show gratitude. "Thank you," I managed. She smiled yet again. Always smiling. "It's okay Rose. I know I have been harsh lately. The cake is also your favorite flavour; vanilla!" She looks so proud to know this, as if I am special.
I hate my birthday. Or anyone else's birthday. Because on that very special day one year ago, my purpose died. The day I also met Luna. And by the way, vanilla is not my favourite cake flavour.
It's chocolate.
