By the time the Greenie bell sounded, you were almost completely better. It had only been a few days, but whatever had been in that salve had worked wonders for you. You still weren't allowed to run the Maze. Instead, you helped Frypan in the kitchen. After they had found out that you were a good cook, you had been promoted from dish duty.
Now, you stand beside Newt, waiting for the Box to arrive. You can't help but feel badly for the new Greenbean. Not only would their memories be gone, but Alby had been in a worse mood than usual lately.
The Box finally arrives and the doors pull open. As usual, or at least as what you've heard is usual, Alby throws down a rope into the Box for the Greenie to climb up with. The Gladers swarm around the newbie as he crawls out. You and Newt stand back. There isn't any point in seeing him first, especially since you'll both see him in only seconds regardless of what you do.
"Nice to meet ya, shank," you hear Alby greet. "Welcome to the Glade."
The boy doesn't respond. You still can't see him, but eventually the Gladers give him a little space. Black hair, brown eyes, white skin... you gasp.
Newt looks at you. "What is it?"
"I saw him in the Changing," you whisper. "That's Thomas."
