Somehow, Chuck finally falls asleep. You stand, tip-toeing out of the room, careful not to step on a single creaky floorboard. You creep up the stairs, each small shift of the wood a deafening sound in the silence, and ease open the door to the room Newt had saved for you.
Despite how careful you had been t be quiet, everybody in the room looks up as you enter. Except for...
"Where's Alby?" you whisper, closing the door behind you.
"The slinthead went out to the Map Room to work," Minho mutters. "If he dies I'm gonna kill him for being so stupid."
As far as you know, the Grievers haven't come. Yet. If he made it to the Map Room, he should be safe. You sigh. "Fair enough."
Newt sits up from the bed he had been at least attempting to sleep in and throws off the blankets. "You can have the bed. I haven't even been able to get a single bloody wink, anyways."
"No, it's fine," you say, shaking your head even as the tiniest little bit of heat creeps into your cheeks. "You can keep it. You'll want it even more if you can't sleep."
Newt raises his eyebrows. "You sure?"
'Y--" you start.
"She really does want it, but she's trying to be nice, so she's telling you to keep it," Minho interrupts, seeming to read your thoughts. A small smirk finds its way on his face as he sees your shocked expression. "See? Her face says it all."
You roll your eyes and start to set out your own bed on the floor. "Whatever you say, Minho."
"Glad to hear that," he says. You can almost see the smile in his voice. "By the way, we'll be going out into the Maze for a few days. And we're not going to return to the Glade at night. We need to explore."
"Sounds like a fun way to get killed," you mutter, laying down on the hard, wooden floor. "I'm in."
"Good that," Newt says, getting back into bed. "I'll go unless I'm needed here."
"But--" you start, sitting up. He may be able to run, but you doubt he'll be able to for an extended period of time.
"I'll be fine. Trust me."
You nod and lay back down. He didn't often stand his ground on things, but if this was one of his times, then there was no convincing him.
